## Overview

The AKG HP4E is a compact, professional 4-channel headphone amplifier featuring dual stereo inputs, eight total headphone outputs (1/4” and 3.5mm), and a durable metal chassis. Designed for recording and mixing, it offers independent input selection per channel and high-quality audio even at loud volumes, making it ideal for studios and collaborative environments.

## Description

The HP4E professional headphone amplifier features two stereo input and four stereo output channels of high-quality audio. Designed for ease of use, convenient switches on the front plate enable you to select your designed input. Each channel features both a 1/8¡± (3.5 mm) and 1/4¡± (6.3 mm) headphone output for easy connectivity ? no adapters required. Housed in a sturdy metal chassis, the HP4E is an ideal headphone amp for any recording session.

Review: I use AKG HP-4E to drive my HD650, and it works pretty well.
Review: Got this to pair with my mixer/interface so that all artists recording can hear the mix through their own headphones instead of using speakers. Does this job very well. I also use this to host small listening parties and to test headphones side by side without the need for constantly plugging and unplugging. For these latter cases, I use an ODAC as the input. Pros: - lots of ports for headphones with 1.4" and 3.5mm endings (8 in total, 4 1/4", 4 3.5mm) - A & B input switcher - can get very loud but your mileage may vary based on headphones and their impedances - very forward sounding; good for recording with different instruments Cons: - no rubber feet. When I first got it, it would not stay put since its bottom is flat with no grip. Had to place my own nonstick feet. - no power switch - blue power light is very bright. I stuck on a piece of electrician's tape because it's very piercing in dark rooms - not neutral - inputs clash and bleed into each other (i.e. when something is playing through input A, you can hear it a bit if you've selected input B on the amp and vice versa) - not the cleanest sounding amp (lots of noise when volume is turned up)

## Features

- Small footprint with 4 totally independent stereo high-power amplifiers in half 1 RU package
- Carefully selected components for high quality audio even at extremely high volume levels
- Two stereo inputs for full flexibility with independent selection of input for each output
- Two outputs per channel with each a 1/4¡± (6.3mm) and 1/8¡± (3.5mm) stereo socket so no adapter is needed
- Rugged construction with strong metal housing to withstand rough working environments

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do these provide 250 or 660 ohms of power for headphones?**
A: Well, ohms don't measure power. Ohms are a measure of impedance. With that said, AKG bills the HP4E as providing 600 Ohms of output impedance. I use it with 600 Ohm AKG K240s (the old Austrian made ones) and it works great.

**Q: Can I connect it to tv?**
A: Yes. However, you will need some sort of adapter/cable depending on what output your TV has. If your TV has a 1/8" stereo headphone output get a 1/8" to stereo 1/4" inch "Y" cable.

**Q: Will this provide 250 ohms to my headphones?**
A: Hi, yes bro it done

**Q: Can I run an instrument thru it?**
A: I have to disagree with the other answers here. Absolutely, you can get stellar tone using this as an amplifier for your instrument - but with a few considerations / adjustments. I have plugged my Rickenbacker 4003 bass into the HP4E and obtained beautiful tone. This is due to this AKG's strong point - it's excellent stereo amplifiers - which are warm and clear - unparalleled actually in my experience for headphone amps. But since there is no EQ of any kind on the AKG, you would want to use an equalizer before plugging in. Even better, I used a Tech 21 Sansamp VT which gave me both excellent tone (since its EQ is designed for bass) and excellent impedance matching. It might be limiting for guitar, but again - this unit's strong point is its amplifiers - they're wonderful. And since it has 1/4 inch inputs, you can plug your instrument straight in and with good headphones you'll hear the quality.

### ⭐⭐ Review
*by S***O on 1 October 2019*

Bought this on recommendations that smaller, portable headphone amps wouldn't drive my Beyerdynamic DT 990 Premiums (250 ohms). Had previous tried both Mackie and ProSonus with no luck (volume was barely adequate, no headroom). This is a well built unit with some really nice features for the price (dual headphone inputs, A/B switch, individual volume settings) but after a few weeks I started noticing I always had my guitar, amplifier, and the volume on this unit turned to Max to get any kind of strong volume. If you've got an ~80 ohm amp and want some boost, this work fine, but for my application anyway, it came up short - even a portable, battery powered headphone amp drives my headphones better than this one seems to. Plus, as many others have pointed out, it's lame that a $100 item doesn't even have a power switch.
