I want to give the child some dolls that would be good with this set. Any suggestions?

Hi! Rainbow high dolls fit in the pool area, but not in the spa chair. The made to move Barbie dolls specifically are the most flexible to fit in the spa chair and pool if you don't plan on buying the omg dolls. The head dryer works best with omg dolls though. I would buy the OMG dolls for this set to avoid compatibility frustrations.

Did anyone else have their toy start smoking when you put any batteries in it?

Hi! My salon did not smoke at all when I put batteries in it. Yours may be defective. I would definitely reach out to MGA about the issue before the 30 day warranty is up.
