Planar goodness on the go
The headphones came well packaged in a properly padded box that indicates quality, loved the unboxing experience. They sound amazing fresh off the box, that clean planar bass extension, forward vocals and clean treble which is well defined yet borderline harsh to my ears, but I’m not complaining. They do not have noise cancellation which I don’t really need, It’s all about that beautiful sound quality.

Wieso gebe ich also trotzdem 5/5 Sterne?

** Sound profile using bluetooth AptxHD connection { Planar magnetic drivers ( oh yeah! ) * Closed-backed ( suitable for in-public usage ) } -- Mid-high performance [9/10] ; planar drivers deliver sparkling, nuanced, crispy detail through this entire spectrum. May be a little toppy on some tracks at high volume. They also have the characteristic of making high frequency noise, if present in the recording, pretty noticeable. ! May need a touch of EQing to better enjoy some tracks / types of music. -- Bass response [9/10] ; I've read criticisms levelled against these phones and planars in general for having 'anaemic' or less-than-impressive bass (which is supposedly a feature native to planars), but to me these are more than acceptable in terms of bass volume and, I would add to that, very well articulated. I like me some 'fast' bass, not smeared or warbling and this is richly achieved on these. -- Sound stage [7/10]; This is a slightly harder metric to quantify and it should be noted that closed-backed phones are innately inferior to open-backed phones with regards to sound staging in general. There just isn't that sense that one is present in the middle of a live performance with instruments all about as is often the case with open-backed phones. Compared to that the sound stage is noticeably compressed and linear. As I understand it, there's just no way around this, being a characteristic inherent to closed-back phones. It's the price you pay for not audibly broadcasting what your listening to to the entire room. Having said that the stereo separation is as impressive as I could have hoped for given this inherent limitation. -- Volume & distortion [10/10]; No problem; They'll go as loud as one could reasonably want paired with bluetooth and suffer no distortion artifacts. -------------------------------------- ** Controls / appearance / accessories / and build quality [10/10] -- Truly impressive; I personally can't comprehend how this product could receive anything but a perfect score in any of these categories at this price point. The unboxing experience is mint and so are the materials, construction and design ethos. One truly gets the sense that they're using premium gear & I would add that I think these are particularly beautiful phones. NOTE: I'm very much of a 'careful' user, given to treating my gear very delicately so I'm not likely to explore their tolerances for abuse, dropping and yanking them about etc. p.s I've been using for 1 week so I cannot make a comment on long-term durability or customer support. -- They come beautifully arrayed in a carry case with accessories. NOTE; Edifier, I'm certainly not complaining, but it would have been truly mind blowing had you included in the kit a bluetooth 5.2 usb dongle for full device connectivity; pc's etcetera... -------------------------------------- ** Fit & comfort [7/10]-- At 362g these are toward the slightly heavy end for phones intended to be used while out and about and / or long listening sessions, and this may prove prohibitive for some particular use cases. But hey, physics, stuff has weight aye. Clamping pressure is great and provides excellent enclosure of my ears. For me, periodic adjustment is necessary to give the spot where they touch the top of my head a rest from being pressed down upon, but this is the case with most headphones I've used and I end up inserting additional cushioning between my head and the band to solve this. -------------------------------------- ** 'Edifier Connect' app offers a good user experience and controls but in my particular case has proven just a little clunky: For me, once launched it stays as a notification ribbon indicating that the device is not connected. And then it doesn't reliably detect when reconnected, even though to the best of my knowledge I've set the app to have the necessary permissions to do so. That's ok though, since it needn't be run for any reason other than to change modes or explore the features of the app. It's worth installing, therefore, to do that; -- HINT you can 'force close' the app when not needed which removes it from lingering in the user interface. Overall [9/10] A compelling, premium feeling, and satisfying user and mobile listening experience with a slight narrowing of useability due to the weight and sonic characteristics. ***** Bravo Edifier, thankyou very much indeed. ***** Thanks also to Amazon for their wonderful shopping experience on this purchase. 10/10.
