Satisfying quality and great results
I bought this to use as a standard lens instead of the XC 15-45 mm kit lens that came with my Fujifilm camera. The XC is made of plastic; it feels cheap and is irritatingly slow to turn on and off as the motor must extend or collapse it each time. The motorised zoom is also spongy. This 35 mm normal prime lens is made of lightweight aluminium and feels reassuringly solid and well made. The aperture ring is a big bonus for quickly and easily controlling the depth of focus of photos. It is good and sharp, even wide open at f/2. Of course I compared it with the kit lens (at f/5.6) on several different subjects and was very surprised to see that the photos from each were equally sharp, and impossible to tell from each other. Clearly the plastic XC lens is much better than I gave it credit for, but this solid 35 mm is a keeper as it is a real pleasure to use and has a wider maximum aperture that can give some lovely blurred backgrounds.

Fujifilm XF 35mm prime lens - a great all-round compact prime lens
I bought this Fujifilm 35mm f/2 WR prime lens, primarily for use in wet conditions (the WR refers to Weather Resistant) whilst I was on a walking holiday, as I didn't want to leave the camera behind when out on the trail. I haven't tested the WR aspect fully as the promised rain never came! The lens is one of the XF range and is designed for Fujifilm cameras using the designated X-series of lenses. The lens is very compact and lightweight and I had no problem carrying it in my camera bag (lens attached), which itself was in a rucksack, with my other gear (raincoat, water bottle etc - the latter was on the outside of the rucksack!). It is built to Fujifilm's usual impeccable high quality with a metal body; I can't fault it. The lens is not image stabilised but is so fast that I had no issues with camera shake. I did compare it with my Fuji 18-55 kit lens and there is, naturally, some loss of a landscape view when compared with shooting, say, at18mm but it isn't really an issue. I find the lens brilliant for portraits, street photography and where 'tighter' landscape views aren't a problem. The two JPEG examples of a stream running through woods (ISO 320, 1/160 s, f/2, 35mm) and an 18th birthday cake (ISO 160, 1/1960 s, f2.8, 35mm), have not been cropped or edited in any way. The level of bokeh (background blurring) is pretty good and easily achieved. Detail and colour rendition is superb and the lens is an excellent all-rounder for most conditions, settings and locations. Using a fixed focussed lens has helped me see things from a different perspective as I can't be complacent about where I stand as opposed to simply zooming in or out to get the frame I want. The lens is used with my recent purchase, a Fujifilm X-T3. It is one of those lenses that I'll carry with me most of the time as I don't believe in investing a lot of money in a camera and then being forced to leave it behind because of a bad weather forecast. Overall, I am more than happy with purchase and look forward to using it on a regular basis. Highly recommended.

Street and travel shooter's lens
I have been a Fuji X user since the early days of the system with the X-E1 and have a substantial selection of bodies and lenses, this now being my main system. I can compare this lens directly with the 35mm f1.4, which was the first lens I bought for the system. Positives: Smaller size and form factor for travel/street photography. Usual high quality build for XF lenses. Better definition of aperture ring clicks than f1.4 version. Causes minimal obstruction to optical viewfinder when using an X-Pro body. Much faster autofocus than f1.4 version Lens hood is a less clunky and more compact design and the cap stays on. At least as sharp throughout aperture range as the f 1.4 version over most of the frame and perhaps a shade sharper at f2. Bokeh is pleasing. Decent performance at close focus. Weather sealed. Negatives: Can be difficult to grip and twist off the lens mount. Mine is quite stiff to turn and there is little to get hold off other than the aperture and focus rings which slip. The farthest corners (and I mean the extreme corners) never quite sharpen up to match the rest of the frame, whereas the f1,4 version is tack sharp across the entire frame at f5.6. Gathers a stop less light than the f1.4 version. Bokeh not quite as lush as the f1.4 at max aperture, but equal upon stopping down. Overall this is an awesome lens and ideally suited to travel/street photographers where weather sealing, compact form and fast AF are most important and extreme corners of the frame less so. The slight differences in performance and design decisions over the f1.4 version mean that having both is not as much of a duplication as might be imagined. The f1.4 version has a truly beautiful rendering at f1.4 that this lens cannot match, and gives a sharper corner to corner image stopped down, but in the practical aspects of size, weather sealing and faster AF the f2 version is better.

35mm and F2 - Expedition Kit
I believe this lens completes the travelling upgrade for my X-T200. It has retired my XC 15-45 which was getting a little sticky. And this is a prime lens. Along with another prime lens 16mm F2.8 and one far reaching zoom XC 50-230, this is lightweight high-end photography for the hiking camper. That zoom in a knee pocket is perfect. This new 35mm F2 gives me high quality centred picture, not wide nor close-up. You see something, you take a picture of it with this 35mm. Weatherproof is welcome as is the metal body but its the aperture ring that really expands your options. The adjustable aperture set-up atop camera is good but ‘listens’ to lens spec and amount of light around it. Now I just dial an aperture. No image stabilisation but the slight extra weight makes a very secure holding position especially through the viewfinder. The camera feels solid but not too heavy. This is not just for adventures, this is expedition kit! (even with flare ring and cover it fits tightly into MegaGear neoprene cover)

Outstanding quality and price
This is a stunning lens, just brilliant. The 35mm f/2 is a 50mm equivalent as the fuji x system is apsc sensor size. This has been my favored focal length for a very long time and is perfect as a walkabout lens. If you're debating whether to get this or the 35mm f1.4 unless you absolutely need that bigger aperture the 35mm f/2 is going to be ideal. The only real difference being that wide open the f1.4 is a hair sharper in the very center of the frame. The 35mm f/2 is lighter, quieter, weather sealed and the auto-focus far quicker. The detail, micro contrast and sharpness really are top tier. I can't overstate that enough. This really is a fantastic lens and presents outstanding value of money. The pictures included are all unedited jpgs straight out of camera.

Great, sharp lens, but no OIS
By any account this is a superb lens with an aperture range f2 - f16 plus an A (auto) setting that will select an f-stop for you, but to my mind this is largely redundant. I can't think of any particular advantage of the f1.4 over this lens as there is no OIS and most Fuji cameras, XH1 and new XT4 excepted, have IBIS. This is something to consider, with both pros and cons. However, this lens is pretty sharp throughout the range - softer at f16 and depending on camera to object distance a very shall dof at f2. I used to know how to calculate dof back in the day, although many lenses had a dof guide which modern lenses lack. The point is, for close-up's, and this lens gets quite close, you need a higher f-stop to get an acceptable amount of the shot in focus. In addition, lack of image stabilisation in lens or camera means you have to either have to use a tripod and shutter release or take great care with hand-held shots; again, something back in the day you would do as a matter of course. So this is the good thing - you have a lens (and, presumably, a camera body) capable of taking superb photographs and you have to take it slow and considered or, use a combination of higher f-stops and high shutter speeds. I found that slow shutter speeds, hand held, risked a slight image blur, not through lack of lens sharpness, but due to slight camera motion. That said, the Fuji system and lenses are great and hark back to the earlier days of modern photography when you didn't fire off a hundred images, but made each shot count. I have several Fuji camera bodies, non of which have IBIS and I enjoy the way they work, the ease with which you can access and operate manual controls and the images they produce - this lens is perfect for the system, just make sure you use it in the way intended, slow and considered. I love this lens!

This lens is so fun to use
This lens is so fun to use. The autofocus is very fast and quiet and you will not notice it at all. That makes it ideal for streetshooting and i would say that it is fast enough to even be used to shoot sport (if you can get close enough). The only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because of the cheaplooking plastic lenshood. Fujis highquality lenses have great buildquality and to get this lens with a plastic lenshood is bad in my opinion. But considering the price of the lens and the performance you can't really have anything but good things to say about this lens. It is very good.

Glad I made the choice!
Ummed and ahhed for ages between this and the older 1.4 model. Finally went for it and I haven't been disappointed. I like my cameras to look nice (it shouldn't matter what camera you use if you get good photos; but it's nice to pick up something that makes you happy. And the happier it makes you feel, the more you'll use it, and the more you use it, the more likely you'll get good photos... well, that's my thinking!) I don't like the tapered barrel at all, but finally felt that the other plus points out weighed the cosmetics. (And in the end I solved this with the expensive but decent lens hood). Having had the wider lens as my walk-around lens for over 18 months, it's taking some time to get used to the focal length, but that's just a personal quibble. The actual lens itself is superb. It focuses well, feels sturdy and clicks reassuringly into place. Since getting it, I think it's only been off the camera once - and that was for a specific portrait shoot. People will say it's not that quick to focus, but if Don McCullin, Larry Burrows, Henri Huet et al could manually focus and correctly expose a shot under fire, then my generation has no excuse for missing a shot and blaming the autofocus! :) Maybe it's not as quick as my DSLRs but you learn to work with the tools you have and it's size, weight and capabilities more than make up for any millisecond delay in my opinion.
