Ideal product for hot tub water removal
Fantastic product. It does a great job, and at a very fast rate of water removal from my hot tub.

Great product, but needs 10 cm minumum water depth to start pumping
There are several almost identical pumps for sale on Amazon at various prices. I went for the one from AIMTools, because this firm offered free post and packing. The dearest one on Amazon is almost twice the price, and is probably no better. I had initial difficulty connecting a hose because I had not thought to order a suitable one with the pump. However, after sorting this out, the pump easily drained the inspection pit in my garage, which had accumulated half a metre depth of ground water, taking about 30 minutes to do so. The only negative point, which is probably shared with all the other similar pumps for sale on Amazon, is that the pump stops sucking when there is still 5 cm of water depth remaining, even if the float switch is held up with a piece of string. Also, it won't start sucking again unless there is at least 10 cm of water depth. This seems to be due to the design of the impeller and the cavity above it. The pit to be drained really needs to have a sump at a low point in the pit to accommodate the pump. I still gave the product 5 stars, because at the price, it is excellent value if you can accept the limitation.

Great Value pump
Just purchased this pump to empty out the above ground 15 ft pool , as previous Clarke pump owned for a year but only used for first time 366 days later failed after 5 mins pumping ! . This pump quickly emptied out the pool no problem apart from the last couple of inches with float clipped in side , worked a treat and no string required to hold float up !! . Attached some 1 1/2 lay flat pipe from previous pumps , which i would have expected to have to buy anyway ( unlike other reviews ) jubilee clip pumped away , job done . Highly recommended pump unlike the Clarke pump bought previously !

Good when it worked.
Used twice and now suddenly stopped working. When it did work it was amazing. Emptied a 10 foot steel frame pool in less than an hour. Really fast flow through a flat pipe, the pipe caused more problems than the pump.

Has not stood up well to wear and tear
The base plate on this pump is made of poor, brittle plastic. It is attached to pencil thin plastic pillars and considering the study nature of the pump itself this part of the design is poor to say the least. You can see one of the thin pillars in the on-line picture. Two have broken already! It pumps OK but don't expect too much if you are using a standard garden hose rather than a big bore hose (the instructions do warn about this).

Works well when you know how to use it!
One is always a bit apprehensive when you buy something like this in case it doesn't work, however in my case it worked well and so far I'm happy with it. It was only delivered yesterday so I don't know how long it will last and like all these things you have to be careful. In particular you have to ensure the pump doesn't run dry and damage the pump motor as one or two customers have discovered to their cost. I bought the Silverline lay flat hose 10m x 25mm along with the pump and with an appropriate jubilee clip I attached the hose to the screw on pump attachment. That was a good decision because it enable the water to flow at a good rate (better than a half inch garden hose). I tested the pump first in a water butt about 18 inches deep. Put the pump in the water first before turning the electrics on and ensure the hose is straight without any kinks (that was a bit of a faff to begin with). That gives the pump the chance to prime itself (fills with water) and then switch on the electrics and check to ensure it's working properly. This is where you find out how it works because you need to hold the float well above the height of the pump for it to switch on. If the float drops it switches off and all these pumps seem to work the same way. You can tell it's better at emptying a much deeper pool of water so that the float stays on the surface. When the level drops below top of the pump you have to find some way of holding the float up unless you want to stand there like a dummy and hold it up yourself. I then went out to my pond and got everything in place including ensuring the hose was in a straight line. My pond was about 18inches deep because it was already partly drained so I held up the float with a separate support (you can usually find something that will do it). Everything worked well, the pond emptied at a nice steady flow rate! The only downside is that it won't drain it dry, leaving about an inch or so remaining. If you want it completely emptied you need a wet vac or similar. Good luck!

Effectively, if not rapidly, drained 2 ponds. Exceptional value for the price. Only holding back the 5th star, as it remains to be seen how long it will last.
