Q: I have grub screws to hold my door knobs in place, however they keep coming loose. Would this product help keep the grub screw in place?

Very likely it will improve the situation if not solve it. Try and clean both the screw and where it goes first, nail polish remover would work if there is any in the house. Allow it to dry before applying the Loctite

Q: Does it smell strongly and if so does it stop when fully dry?

Like any adhesive it must have some kind of smell before curing though I can't say I have ever put my nose to it to see if it smelt! The adhesive cures in the absence of oxygen (trapped in the small clearance space of the male/female threads of the screw fastening that you are trying to "lock" so I doubt you'd ever get an odour emanate from those parts. To be honest, I'd be more concerned that it locked the threads sufficiently to stop the screw/nut etc from vibrating loose rather that what it smelt like but of course I don't know what application you intend using it for where odour seems to be an important issue.

Q: Packet says permanent locking where disassembly not required. Will I be able to use on brake calipers and still be able to remove in future?

Note that the packet images are for two different products, loctite 2400 (medium strength) and loctite 2700.

I can’t see why not. This product is a “thread locker” and is designed to prevent screws/bolts and nuts from loosening due to vibration. It isn’t permanent as it’s designed to break its bond when parts need disassembling. Make sure you apply it on clean dry threads (no oil or grease on the threads). Only use it on threaded parts that need to remain fixed prior to assembly not on parts designed to move.
