Excellent product. I highly recommend.
Edited to explain to the complainants, why there are no plugs attached. I have copied the wording from the product information above - “No plugs are supplied with this product: In the UK it is illegal for a manufacturer to supply an indoor use 3 pin plug with an outdoor product.” All uk pond equipment suppliers have to abide by this legal requirement. This is my second purchase of the Blagden 5in1 3000. The previous one worked perfectly for over 5 years before giving up. My pond is in the sun and 1,500 litres. I have 5 goldfish over 10 inches, who gave me over 20 babies last year so the pond is now overstocked (they are all hiding under the Lilly pads). As you can see the pond is free of blanket weed and the water is clean and clear. I have added 2 of the 3 free Blagden pond pads that I found tucked inside the packaging- thank you, I’ve ordered more. This pump is very effective and efficient. It’s simple to put together and lift out for cleaning. I’m a 70 year old woman so I appreciate how easy this is to use and maintain. The price is very reasonable when compared to buying a separate filter box and pump which I’ve had in the past and this works just as well. There’s the added bonus of no leaking hoses and jubilee clips to wrestle with either. Please forgive the ugly netting, we have a very determined Heron who lives on a nearby lake but he hasn’t taken any - yet!

Wish I could write two reviews ...
I really need to write two reviews … one for the pump and one for Blagdon customer service (no complaints on Amazon support). First the pump. It is quite big once the pump and filter are connected, which is easy enough. Also, which other reviewers have mentioned, I was surprised that you need two quite separate power connections; pump and UV lamp. Not hard to sort out, but an unnecessary complication. Everything is easy enough to put together and get working. This model has a split output which we wanted. It is adequate though not exciting, but at 27W it was never going to be super powerful. Once in place, it takes a short while, but it really does clear up the pond. Our smallish pond with six fish took about a week to reach the point where we could see the bottom. We never could see the bottom before this pump/filter was installed. However, that is the story of my 'second' pump … Customer service from Blagdon is pretty poor - but at least they answered. The first pump was installed and worked as expected but the water did not clear. After cleaning the filters, still no joy. I then checked the UV lamp which was blown; this in the first two weeks which I considered an unreasonably short time. The Amazon support points you to the Blagdon site and a Blagdon customer service form. In short their response was 'this is a consumable part, you should buy another. Or you can use Amazon's replacement process". So rather than send a bulb Blagdon are happy to go through the whole replacement process and presumably get a used unit back from Amazon. Anyhow, Amazon exchanged it no problem. I simply swapped the bulbs and returned the unit with a broken bulb. So, with a working UV bulb it seems very good. However, I am not feeling confident if I need to use the three year warranty in the future.

We've had pond filters/pumps for years, and this one is the best yet. Genius idea.
We've had pond filters/pumps for years, and this one is the best yet. The traditional set-up is a pump, some hose to the UV, then into a tank with foam filters, bio media, and back into the water. This works the other way round sucking the water in through the top, through course foam, finer foam, very fine thin foam, bio media, UV and then the pump. All under the water, so it will never leak or pump the pond dry. Genius. Cleaning our old one was a real chore, and very messy. The pump always needed cleaning as it got wrapped in weed, sometimes the hose needed cleaning, the UV was of dubious use after as it was always mucky, and the foam was very messy to lift out and clean. Leave it too long, and it would overflow and the pond level would promptly drop. With this you can either have a fountain, and it comes with a variety of pipes and spouts, or you can add a hose to use a pond side ornamental object. I've stayed with the supplied fountain, which gives a really good 'running water' noise. The fountain outlet adjusts in every direction, so if like me your pond bottom isn't that flat, and the water level varies depending on how much it's rained, you can still get the fountain to spray straight up from the water level. The LED lights illuminate the fountain and are surprisingly effective. You can cover the sensor, so they don't have to be on if you don't want them. It's been running for a couple of months, and I waited to review it until I knew how it was working. The water is now crystal clear, which the other products very rarely achieved. It's really simple to clean. I leave the handle upright as it's in around 18 inches of water, and this makes it very easy to lift out to clean it. My pond volume is close to the maximum suggested, and has some large goldfish in it. The instructions suggest washing the filters in a bucket of pond water, but it's much easier to just hose them clean. (I leave the bio media alone unless it's really nasty.) As you lift it out of the pond, the main weight is the water in it, so I tip it so it goes back into the pond, and then lift it out nearly empty and much lighter. It's been really well thought out. Once the pump dropped off, and this was due to the fitting holding it to the main body unscrewing. I did have to take it completely to bits to re-fit that bit, but that was only 4 small screws and some time. I have been cleaning it weekly, but I'm probably contributing to that by using treatments for blanket weed and muck digestion, making it work quite hard. You know when it needs a clean, as the fountain gets smaller. There's also algae which needs cleaning off the lights and fountain head to keep them working well. Handy tip, use an upturned garden soil sieve to put the dirty foam on, and hose through it to clean them. Do it on the lawn, and it's free lawn food as well. It's possible to clean it all with only your hands getting wet - with care.

I have had this for 2 weeks and it cleared all my algae-ridden pond. I had to use algaway as well as algae blocks in addition.

Had been using a solar filter but obviously when there was no sun it didn't filter so I decided to buy a more expensive power corded filter. So far I'm impressed with the filter and have seeing a vast improvement in water quality. The fish seem to be happier(if that makes sense) Keep in mind that the UV light needs to be replaced (as per manufacturers advice). I did a quick search and the price seems to be around the $50AU mark. Also you will find they need to be connected to a power plug so you will need 2 of them, easy enough to connect. It is compatible to Australian power supply. Would recommend.

Don’t believe it can handle big pond even if you purchased the biggest one because it can handle very small pond. I have to clean it every two days and its a big headache for me. It took time to clean it. I do not recommend it at all because the pressure is for one then either a fountain or waterfall.
