Eye-opening insight into what recent science has revealed
This book blends the author’s insights gained from a professional lifetime managing a publibly-owned commercial / amenity forest with the astounding results of recent scientific investigation to produce a compelling narrative that will fundamentally alter how you see and experience woodland. It is presented in a highly readable way and deserves a place on the bookshelf of anyone with an interest in natural history. A little is lost in the translation of the author’s rather whimsical prose style, but in every other regard this is a “must read”.

Got to the root of trees
Loved everything about this book. It explored so much about trees and how they grow and communicate and support each other. So much more to a tree than one thinks. I will read this again and again.

Fascinating and very informative
I am completely captivated by this book. It is so well written and crammed full of fascinating facts. The author has a huge amount of knowledge about trees and their surroundings, above and below the earth, and it is obvious he has a great passion for them. I have almost finished reading this book and have learned so much from it that walking through woods and forests in the future will never be the same. In fact I can't wait and will view trees in a completely different way now. If you love the outdoors, you will definitely enjoy reading this book.

The biggest longest living organism on the planet - who'd have thought? Check it out
A fascinating read demonstrating how little we know about the World around us. It seems we are at our Genesis and the next generation are faced with the immense opportunity of clearing up our act, understanding how the trees created the climate that is conducive to our wellbeing and how the wholesale destruction of these benevolent life forms will lead to our own downfall. Darwin postulated over 150 years ago that the trees combined with the activity of the earthworms created the environment we enjoy today. Lets hope this book will lead to more understanding of how our planet works and the atmosphere is created. According to the book we don't even really understand how these massive 'pumps' work but we do know that they massively affect the atmosphere and the air that we breathe and the water table. A first step in the right direction?
