Having read a few reviews I decided to buy this spade to dig post holes for a new pergola. I thought the price was very reasonable given the brand but it is the spade that impressed me the most. It is extremely strong and was perfect for digging the post holes, although I did need to use my hand to remove the soil as the hole got deeper. I managed to dig a series of 2ft holes with ease and the spade was even strong enough to navigate a few large stones and roots with no signs of damage to the cutting edge. The product arrived on time and was well packaged to prevent damage in transit. I would highly recommend this spade to anyone looking for a cheap and easy method of digging post holes.

Item is well designed and well made, slightly heavy if you’re not very fit but easy enough if you are to dig for most of the day. Used mine to dig a 50m trench for a drainage pipe over a couple of weekends without incident and it made easy work of it.

Superb spade. I dug 6x 2 foot post holes and it only took about 15-20 minutes per hole. Quality is excellent. I seen reviews saying it was heavy but I'm 5'4 and slim build and I didn't find it heavy. It's solid and great for knocking loose fairly large stones while digging holes. Well worth the money.

Bought this for digging fence post holes,very good build feels strong and feel it will last,used for one job and coped with ease to hard digging conditions,probably heavier than the more expensive insulated handle type but for the price excellent value

I bought this to dig a 25 metre trench for some new hedging in November (UK) when the weather was around 5 degrees and a conventional spade was finding it difficult to cut through tree roots and hardened soil. This spade is easier to get deep enough into soil. I also like the fact it's one piece of metal making it sturdy for harder jobs. Also heavier than expected which isn't necessarily a bad thing as you can use it's weight to push into ground.

I ordered this in January, and it has been used since March nearly every day for pulling out tree stumps and bushes (the fence picture was lined with bushes and trees, and it has helped get all of them out). Metal thingies that have wooden fence poles in. Everything. This is a godsend. Yes, I had trouble with that bush tree in the second photo, as it didn't just have a few roots; it had about 30 of them, and it had gone through a concrete slab (I didn't realise concrete slabs could crumble, but they do, and it looks a bit like a honeycomb). I wouldn't hesitate to say if you need a spade that can do bushes/trees, etc., this is the one. It's been stored in the greenhouse, so it's to hand when I need it (or my other half, as that horrible bush in photo 2/3 wouldnt come out even through I did 3 sides of it; the roots had gone though the slab and under the concrete under the greenhouse, etc.). 4 months later (1st picture) and its showing a bit of wearing but it has had a punishing 4 months.

zu meinem Projekt: etwas mehr als 35 m Graben im Garten für ein ca. 50 cm tief verlegtes Erdkabel. Ich habe mit diesem Spaten an drei Nachmittagen mit jeweils 2 Std. den Graben in jeweils 12 m Abschnitten gebuddelt, das Kabel abschnittsweise verlegt und wieder geschlossen. Für mein Empfinden ging dies schnell, einfach und war weit weniger anstrengend als vermutet. Wir haben einen Sand-Steinboden (zunächst durch die Rasennabe und dann viel Schotter und Betonsplittgemisch ab ca. 40-45 cm Tiefe. Bei reinem Sandboden wäre es sicher noch schneller gegangen.) Ich habe immer nur in jeweils 5 cm Abständen die Erde abgestochen und ausgehoben. Dann erhält man auch im Rasen sofort einen scharfen Rand und muss die Ränder nicht zuvor seitlich vorausstechen. Nach dem Zuschütten fällt der ehemalige Graben kaum auf und wird rasch wieder bewachsen sein. Ja, der Spaten ist sehr schwer, ich hatte bisher noch nie einen so schweren Spaten und war zunächst etwas skeptisch, ob das wirklich eine gute Wahl war. Mir fehlte zunächst auch eine abgeflachte Trittkante. In der Praxis zeigte sich jedoch, dass das besonders schmale Blatt (unten 10 cm oben 14 cm) überhaupt kein Problem hat, bis zum Anschlag (40 cm) tief in die Erde getreten zu werden. Das fühlt sich ein wenig an, wie ein Schwert, das in den Boden gleitet. Selbst große Steine (Mauersteine, Bauschutt) konnte ich in der Tiefe mit dem Spaten mit vollem Körpereinsatz aushebeln ohne das auch nur irgend etwas verbogen worden wäre. Mit einem normalen Spaten hätte ich mich das nicht getraut, noch wäre das gut gegangen. Durch die gerundete Form des Blattes bleibt der Aushub auch darauf und rutscht nicht sofort wieder in den Graben zurück. Es ist schlußendlich überhaupt kein Vergleich zu einem normalen Spaten. Der Graben ist sofort schön tief aber schmal, was für mich wichtig ist, denn man möchte in seinem Garten schließlich keinen Flurschaden anrichten und man kann im 2. Durchgang noch leicht etwas tiefer ausgeben. Ich persönlich hätte jedoch keine Ambitionen mehr als 50 cm tiefe Gräben mit der Hand zu ziehen, auch wenn dies mit diesem Spaten noch problemlos gelingen würde, aber man darf nicht vergessen, dass man dann schon sehr tief mit dem Rücken in den Graben runter muss - denn zum Schluss wird man die lose Erde vom Grund mit fast waagerecht geführtem Spatenblatt aufnehmen und das geht natürlich bei besonderer Tiefe voll auf den Rücken. Absolut verdiente 5 Sterne für diesen super soliden Graben-Spaten - ich würde ihn jederzeit gerne wieder kaufen. Das nächste Projekt ist die automatische Gartenbewässerung. Man sollte sich einfach nicht zuviel an einem einzelnen Tag vornehmen, sondern auf mehrere Tage aufteilen. Dann merkt man auch das höhere Gewicht nicht wirklich. Das Beste ist der Preis. Besser geht es für mein Empfinden jedenfalls nicht.

Avevo bisogno di una pala stretta e lunga per scavare una trincea per la posa di un tubo di irrigazione del prato. E' un ottimo strumento che vale certamente il suo prezzo, e che consiglio per chi deve fare uno scavo a sezione ridotta.
