Amy Myers is a doctor who realised that the conventional practices for treating Autoimmune diseases were ineffective and set out on a mission to develop a protocol that is effective. She has first hand experience herself after being diagnosed with Graves disease and this helps her to see everything from a patients perspective. This book does not falsely promise a cure however it does promise to resolve all your symptoms, get you off your medication and live a high quality of life. The book covers every aspect of health from heavy metal poisoning, environmental hazards to mold and everything inbetween without ever feeling like a long list, she covers everything that you just need to know. She explains the complicated science parts with great analogies that is easy to understand for the lay person, the stories and testimonials are heart warming. After reading hundreds of health books I feel like I can finally stop and relax after finding this gem and if I could pick just one health book it would be this one. Do yourself a favour and read this book or buy it for a loved one suffering from an autoimmune disease. Review: A good book - As a physical therapist and holistic practitioner with a particular interest in nutrition, I have read many similar books, so much of what Amy says is not new or controversial, but if you haven't been immersed in this alternative field then it could be new to you. I am not surprised her method works, and I am sure it does, and if it doesn't then you will need the support of a nutritionist to organise and run other tests for you, so don't give up. She explains clearly and in sufficient detail the nutritional principles behind her diet. Her approach is essentially a paleo one but she also excludes seeds and explains why. On the other side of the coin, there are diets from well known UK nutritionists such as Patrick Holford and Marilyn Glenville that take an almost vegetarian approach and appear to achieve a similar result, like this diet they do avoid wheat, glutein, and dairy, caffeine and alcohol, sugar but avoid meat, which does produce acidity in the body, which could be unhelpful, particularly if you are not an O type, according to Peter Adamo, Eat right for your blood type. This would appear to be a good option for meat eaters, vegetarians might like to try the other approaches mentioned first and if not successful switch to this one.

A good book

Great read, gives us all hope, but it isnt magic
The is a typical American book by what I call "superstar doctors". You see them popping up all over the states and they have huge followings. Mostly they base their science on other work but they are smart at selling it. I mean look at Dr Myers, she is attractive, looks amazing for her age, battled disease herself, is relatable, and has an MD, whats not to like! The book is pretty much a jazzed up take on The Whole30 diet and the closely related GAPS diet. Regardless of implementation and phasing, the basic outline is the same. Cut the toxins and all inflaming foods out for good. Enjoy the rewards. The book goes into detail as to the science behind chronic inflammations and why it is important to be strict about this. It is a great read and a serious eye opener. But you have to keep in mind that the science in the book is all to support to eventual conclusion. There are pretty broad generalisations that are made about the medical community, but by in large, it is rather accurate. But like all American books of the genre, expect plenty of product placement and self promotion. Not that it takes away from the quality of the material. But there are pages dedicated to getting you to buy supplements she recommends. Many of which are actually excellent. I would recommend the book to anyone suffering from anything from minor to severe symptoms of any chronic immune related disease or condition. It could be that you get the off symptom or are in constant pain, you should really feel some relief if you stick to the programme for a while. And even if you are just curious, get to it, save yourself a world of pain. But you are making lifelong commitments here. I believe this gives hope to many people. I think you will find this especially helpful if your symptoms havent yet crippled your life completely and if you are young enough to really build momentum. But it should help you regardless.

An eye opener, must read and life changer
The best book I have ever read and I have read endless books on health, nutrition and especially gut health. I have an auto-immune condition (Lupus) and have been fighting gut yeast overgrowth on & off all my life. I have been off sugar, dairy, gluten for quite some time but this book made it clear that I will need to get beyond that if I want to get anywhere near to controlling my symptoms. I have switched all food, body care and cleaning products to organic. I have cut out all foods listed in this book and I already feel worlds better. Everyone with digestive problems and any sort of auto-immune condittion should read this book. It is the first book I have come across that establishes the link between gut health and immune-system reactions to it.

Insightful but not sustainable
The book provides very useful info. However: It says, abstain from all legumes, beans, dairy, grains, all carbohydrates known to us, coffee, except meat and vegetables/ fruits. It is too depressing and I don't find this tip sustainable.

I cannot recommend this book enough, it was absolutely incredible. The entire book included applicable information and steps to take toward reclaiming your health. The research was backed by both science and experience from a practicing MD and the entire book was full of hope and encouragement! As a nurse, I am exposed to the reality of conventional medicine everyday. Working in the ICU has been rewarding but also devastating seeing the number of lifestyle-related illnesses. Doctors are simply medicating symptoms, prescribing more medication for the side effects and our nation is continuing to get sicker. Dr. Myers’ approach sets her apart and this book offers an alternative approach that actually addresses the underlying causes of disease. Because autoimmunity is on the rise, I am grateful knowing that there are MD’s like Amy Myers that take a functional medicine approach and share the information with the world. Also, some of the other autoimmune books referenced in previous reviews are great but NOTHING like this book. In fact one in particular is full of research and information and even with my medical background, I find it hard to comprehend and apply. The Autoimmune Solution doesn’t stop at the education part, and that is what sets it apart from any other book out there. Dr. Myers goes above and beyond to make sure that the reader can practically apply the knowledge and gives you a plan to carry it out. The recipes I have made are AMAZING. This book is now my motivation to take charge of my health, I have never been more excited to do so until reading this book! Not only does Dr. Myers explain the causes of autoimmunity and share her story and real life examples, but also she equips the reader, educates and even empowers them to take health into their own hands. The program in the book includes a diet and a comprehensive approach to prevent all the factors that can lead to autoimmunity. Don’t even think about buying this book, just do it! Whether you have an autoimmune disease or not you will greatly benefit from and appreciate this book. I have never been more motivated, inspired and encouraged to lead a healthier life. THANK YOU DR. MYERS FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION, GIVING US TOOLS AND SHARING YOUR JOURNEY IN THE AUTOIMMUNE SOLUTION!!

Researcher from the Netherlands here, who is looking into the causal-loop relationships of the human metabolism on a professional level. So I also came across this book and thought to give it a try, as it claims to promise a solution. The book indeed contains some good general information with respect to antibodies, molecular mimicry, etc. that can be quite useful to understand why autoimmune diseases might occur. However, the book is full of superficial claims that read like they were taking over from some teenager internet blog. Lists full of general symptoms every couple of pages, thousands of repetitions (this is super annoying for the European reader; I get that the average American might need this in order to actually perceive the information), and constant self-adulation are frustrating while reading the book. Why does the author need to mention "The Myers Way" at least once on every page? This approach offers nothing special compared to other approaches on the internet. What is that "Myers Way", besides that Mrs. Myers manages to run a fully-organized marketing campaign for her own products, books, and the clique of other associated American doctors in this field?! I have run a keyword search, just to show how ridiculous this neo-capitalistic self-marketing campaign is. "The Myers Way" has been mentioned 207 times throughout this book. This is at least once per page, when excluding the appendices, forewords, and empty pages. In comparison, "thyroid" has been used 57 times, "leaky gut" 79 times, and "serotonin" (which is more than crucial when fixing autoimmune diseases) just TWICE. Again: TWICE, even though serotonin is a crucial neurotransmitter that is essential for reducing stress - that again leads to higher cortisol levels in the blood, which has a tremendous impact on the whole metabolism, especially with respect to the intestinal permeability, dysbiosis, nutrient absorption, and mental well-being. Another thing I am missing are citations (in the text itself). In such a book that claims to offer a "science-based solution" called (surprise, surprise) "The Myers Way", direct citations to scientific peer-reviewed publications that underpins the specific claims are simply necessary.

If ever you want to read a helpful book on autoimmunity, this IS THE BOOK TO BUY! It covers so many things. I heard about Dr. Amy in November 2014 on her free on-line Autoimmune Summit she hosted with 40 health experts. After that, I knew I had to pre-order her new book she mentioned “The Autoimmune Solution”. Three days after receiving it, I had already read it cover to cover. She helped me understand so much in a language you don’t need to be a doctor to understand. She is such a knowledgeable person and she really wants to get the word out about this. I bought this book because I have a thyroid problem, have chronic migraines that I already knew where due to food sensitivities, constant neck and back aches due to inflammation, brain fog, tired all the time and have a hard time remembering new things. Dr. Amy really goes into details about the whys and the hows in able to improve, prevent and reverse your symptoms and diseases and which supplements will help heal your gut and keep you in optimal health. I had also purchased 2 of her e-courses she has on her website a few weeks before receiving the book, so by the time I received her book I had already started putting the Myer’s Way into practice. After only 1 week, I have already started seeing some results and expect to get even better results within the coming days and weeks. My next step is to order the supplements that are suggested in the book and to get the actual blood work done to make sure I’m not missing anything. This would make a wonderful gift to give to a friend or family member who is suffering or even to your conventional medicine doctor, who could really benefit in helping their patients with this information. I want to say Thank you Dr. Amy Myers for sharing your work, I am so deeply appreciative to you for this book, that I could go on and on.

The Step by Step guide on how to resolve Autoimmune condition really helped me. After reading the book, I took consultation of Dr. Myers's Wellness coach Liz Schau, she recommended a list of supplements which have helped me handle my allergy. Personally I can vouch that the process described in the book works!
