Also turns on the side light if there is motion detected. BUT you can turn down or off the motion detection light so you're not blinded by it every time you walk past it at night. It turned out eventually that an underground power cable, close to and feeding our meter box had blown, making Carbon Monoxide in the process, triggering the battery-powered alarm. We agreed that lack of a reliable light to find our way around had proved the worst handicap at the time. Months later we saw the Nitesafe in a holiday cottage we rented, and saw immediately how this would have met so many of our needs on that night, fumbling around in the near dark while finding what we needed, as we were forced to exit our home for our safety and wait there for assistance to arrive.
