A Profound and Poetic Journey Through Healing
Kathleen Glasgow's Girl in Pieces is a masterfully written novel that delves deep into the complexities of mental health, self-harm, and the arduous path to recovery. Through the eyes of seventeen-year-old Charlotte "Charlie" Davis, readers are taken on an emotional journey that is both harrowing and hopeful. Authentic and Relatable Characters Charlie's character is portrayed with such raw honesty that it's impossible not to empathize with her struggles. Her experiences are a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and her journey resonates with anyone who has faced personal demons. The supporting characters are equally well-developed, each adding depth and perspective to the narrative. Stunning Prose and Narrative Style Glasgow's writing is both lyrical and fragmented, mirroring Charlie's mental state and drawing readers into her world. This stylistic choice enhances the emotional impact of the story, making it a compelling read from start to finish. As noted by reviewers, the writing is "gorgeous, almost poetic at times," capturing the nuances of Charlie's experiences

Such a great book but very detailed so some readers might find it upsetting
I’ve always hated reading and found every book boring and never seemed to remember what I read in the previous page, but this is different, I’ve genuinely never been so intrigued/engaged into a book.

Outstanding and heart breaking
This book was sad and great. It is such well written, from the point of view of an unstable teenage girl, that she seems so real she could jump out of the page at any time. I cam by this book while researching the self-harm topic for a book I am writing. I have never had contact with people with this problems, so I want to make sure I am sensible and realistic with the matter. This is a book of fiction, and the characters aren't real, but the issues treated here are. The feelings, the thinking the problems... my heart bled for Charlie, specially the first third of the book. Such beautiful book to give a voice to the people who have suffered or know someone who went through this. Or to the others like me, to understand the problem better. It must have been very hard to write this book, so I raise my hat to th writer, and I wish her that she is in a better place than she had been, and that finding your voice in any type of art, like writing, is one of the most beautiful things in the world. You are a great writer. Great with words. Better at transmitting feelings and make the readers feel them.

Incredibly gritty and painful read
I thought this book was simultaneously amazing and gut wrenching. Girl in pieces is a story of a girl in pieces. It's a graphic and upsetting depiction of a very mentally unwell teenage girl and her story in the world. It follows Charlie growing up and how she navigates the various stages of her life with her mental illness. I think this is a hard and an important read, I think it's a beautiful depiction of struggle that is also very hard to read and upsetting. I think i read this book at the right time for it to leave a positive impact on me. It should definitely come with a trigger warning and an understanding that it is a incredibly raw and vivid story, not to be romanticised. I love this story, i simply recommend with caution due to the subject material.

This book made me fall in love with poems. The depth of emotion conveyed in each poem is truly remarkable, while reading I found myself immersed in vivid scenarios that evoked goosebumps and left me shivering at times. Humans are capable of feeling a spectrum of emotions, and this book excited every single one of them. There is so much every single person goes through but never thinks about their situation and ignores it but every part of life plays an important role and there is so much to learn from it. If one looks closely at their life, one can relate to every single poem in this book. Such a spectacular way of penning down those emotions on a piece of paper is not a child's play. And the best part is that at this young age, the poet has gone through all these circumstances and the observation of every incident is tremendous. Also "Peace in the Pandemonium" justifies what the poet wants to express which is, that even in the most tragic and chaotic part of life you can find peace, you have to. There is nothing fancy in the content everything is pure truth and harsh reality which everyone can relate to. And the book ends with a beautiful line "because without you, so many of us would feel so lost" which emphasizes the importance of life as not only it affects oneself but all the people around us. I have been affected by this book in the most positive way possible and would recommend everyone to read this book atleast once in their life.
