The diameter of the pepper mill is 6cm. We use a Lakeland wooden mill rest in which it fits nicely and looks like the acacia item linked to this product on Amazon.

The dots are the same black on both the salt and pepper mill (altho only 3 on the salt mill, obviously).

I am really surprised to learn that a Cole & Mason pepper mill has broken. I am sure that if you contact Cole & Mason direct, with evidence of the date of your purchase, they will replace it immediately. My Cole & Mason pepper and salt mills have performed brilliantly for a number of years, with no problem. I have a set in two residences, and friends who recommended them have had theirs for ages too. Don't give up on them! I'm sure your experience is just one in a million so to speak
