So I am by no means a professional chef/cook. I do however cook the larger, from scratch meals in my house. Sometimes all you can ask for, is a decent knife. I went with the Dalstrong Santoku Black Shadow series. It's premium looking knife, with a very premium feel. For the price you can get a whole block of knives that can't cut any near as smooth as this blade. I was able to dice onions without shedding a single tear. Now what a lot of people don't know is that; Onions make you tear up because of the juices it secretes, if your knife isn't sharp enough and with each cut bruises what could be a clean smooth cut leaving microscopic breaks and cracks in the onion. But with a sharp knife, it glides right through giving a clean cut reducing juice secretion from the onion. Cutting through a tomato which I did manage to film I didn't have to apply a lot a pressure as you can see in the video I provided. All cut with the back and forward motion of the knife you can see it slide in and out with ease. As you can the knife itself is very beautiful I never thought I would ever drop this kind of money on a knife and now I know I would for the quality of blade you get with these knives. Definitely worth the buck. Sturdy construction definitely not just for show. Try one. I want the whole set.

This is certainly a unique kitchen knife of the Santoku style. It's striking red color and angular handle make it easy to spot in a busy kitchen and that's a good thing! It comes in an impressive and sturdy padded box, making this a nice gift for any serious cook. At first I was worried that the angular looking handle would feel awkward, but once I picked it up it felt comfortable and easy to control. I am not sure how it would feel if I were to use it for 2-3 hours a day however. In use, this knife is sharp and very easy to use. It cuts with little effort and is easy to aim and control. The blade edge was a bit sticky with onions sticking a bit to the knife edge. I found the Santoku shape of this knife to be easier to use during prep than a traditional chef's knife. It just feels more controllable. Its 7 inch blade is just the right size for me. Even my sister in law, long time associate of Martin Yan (Yan Can Cook) commented on this knife, saying "Nice knife" over a text message. Wait until she tries it!

I've had my eye on a set of DALSTRONG knives for a couple of years and when I finally got one I was not disappointed, I want to use it for everything in the kitchen even it isn't the right knife for the job. Its just beautiful and so well designed and executed, if I could give it 6 stars I'd want to give it 7.

This Dalstrong knife is super cool looking. It has a different shape from other knives. It comes in a nice little box with a sheath to protect the edge. It is definitely sharp and cuts a tomato like butter. This knife is expensive, but it cuts great. I got so tired of my knives not cutting worth a hoot, even after sharpening over and over. Finally I decided to get a new knife. I am glad I decided to try this one. It also comes with a lifetime warranty against defects.
