Q: Also, is it clear? Description says 12mm wide but picture shows it to be 50mm wide?

The stuff I used is not clear, but translucent, woith a slight yellow cast. I think is comes in a varity of widths. It is suepr sticky. I use it for the transom flaps on my boat, and it is Ace

Q: Would it stick a smoke alarm to the ceiling, but be able to be removed with out taking plaster after the alarms life end?

It will stick without any problem but can't be sure upon removal if it would remove plaster i think it probably would

I don't think it's suitable other than sticking paper to a flat surface or sticking to its self.Find another product I have had little success.

Sorry I don't know. I used to stick lightweight insulation to walls . However, needed a lot of tape and although staying on wall I found no ails in tubes a lot better. The no nails cover a larger area and seems to have a really good hold
