The king of quiet PC fans - no other device can match its low noise levels and decent airflow levels. Expensive though.
This is the king of quiet PC fans. I checked specs on a number of them, and none match this for both noise levels and airflow. It runs at a maximum of 1200 RPM, or can be limited to no more than 800 RPM using the provided low-noise adapter. Also provided is an extension cable, screws, and rubber mounting devices that can take the place of screws, providing a mounting system guaranteed not to have any vibration noise. All provided in a stylish book-like package, with a nicely laid out instruction manual. Performance is excellent. It's extremely quiet while still moving a good amount of air. It looks good too, if you're into that sort of thing. Makes a change from plain boring black or grey devices. Installation is easy enough using the screws provided. The rubber mounting devices are a bit trickier, especially if you're trying to install the fan in a cramped PC case and/or where you can't get full access. You need to pull them through the screw holes, and they are a tight fit, requiring them to be wiggled around to get them fully through the holes. This is OK if you can get full access to the holes, but can be very hard if you're trying to install it in a tight place. If you're trying to lower the noise of your PC fans, or any device that uses (or can use) a 12cm / 120mm fan, then I know of no fan better than this one. The only downside is the price. It's definitely priced for the enthusiast market, and is packaged as such: everything about it shouts quality, high-end product. That's fine, but I likely would have bought a couple more if I didn't have to keep paying for stuff I don't need. It's a shame that they don't offer a 'bare' version that doesn't include the accessory pack. While it's well put together, and will be appreciated in many installations, there are likely many users who, like me, only need the fan, and won't use the provided screws, rubber mounts, extension cable or low noise adapter (all of which can be bought separately if the buyer later changes their mind about needing them.) Noctua really should consider also making the fan available on its own so that users who don't need all the other stuff don't have to pay for accessories and packaging they really don't need. I suppose they prefer to be seen as a luxury brand, but that's definitely costing them a few extra sales, at least from me.

Great all rounder case fans
Great all rounder case fan. Decent airflow. The rubber padding definitely helps reduce noise, but I recommend using the metal screws to keep everything secure.

Good fans so far - but fiddly to install with rubber mounting option
Only had the fans a short while [1 week] but they have sunk my temperatures by 10-20degrees on idle whilst remaining at low noise. The only reason this is given 4 stars is because despite all the extras included in the box, the mounting option is soft plastic that bends so much, I can't fit it easily through the hole on all 4 sides due to case access restrictions for the top most case fan. So I gave up and used a screw...or at least tried to, but then realised these weren't able to fit the case I have [a now dated Antec P180]. A great case however - after 12 years. The good news is, 4 stars only for my experience. You might have a 5* experience. Advice to anyone buying these, expect to use screws if fitting this somewhere fiddly, unless you have ninja-like finger abilities :D

Genuine retail package
Contains all the bits and bobs you would expect. I particularly enjoy the short 15cm cable with 30cm extension for case fans allowing me to choose which fans go to which headers on the motherboard no problem. Very quiet fan. Great for low static pressure situations like case cooling, not suitable for radiators or heatsinks. You should get high static pressure fan for those situations. Make sure to have a look on Noctua's website before buying to make sure you get the right fan for your situation - they have a lot to choose from and all of them have very specific purposes. My motherboard has 12V 1A PWM fan headers and it can read and control the fan speeds, good for this fan (12V 0.05A) so make sure you buy the right fans for your motherboard or fan controller for the best result. Additionally, the included splitter cable allows me to connect both fans to a single fan header. Quote from Noctua website: "The NA-YC1 Y-Cables make it possible to run two 4-pin PWM fans on a single fan header and to let the mainboard control the speed of both fans simultaneously. Multiple NA-YC1 can be daisy-chained to control more than two PWM fans via one header." which is great since my headers provide 1A each. I got two of these to replace front fans in my case connected with a splitter and then one at the back with an extension because both of the case fan headers I'm using are at the front of the motherboard. I can control the front fans simultaneously and the rear fan separately for the best balance of noise and airflow, but it's generally so quiet anyway that the only real benefit of running these fans slower is that my dust filter will require less cleaning. Regarding price and value for money, the price is comparable to any decent RGB PWM fan, but with this fan we trade the RGB nonsense for a 6 year warranty, excellent build quality and probably the least noise of any 120mm fan you can buy.

Super matos!
