Standard Catalog of Colt Firearms

Exhaustive detail on the Colt line from 1836 through the M16/AR15. Values are dated, but the core information remains relevant today.

If you're an avid gun collector or a gun dealer, this is the book for you. Helped me narrow down my Model 1896 (a rare one) much more specifically than internet guesswork. Would definitely buy again. A handy reference guide with all the information you need on Colt firearms in one place, rather than scattered over the internet.

This is a decent effort and a real contribution, but it really does not come up to the standard of The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson. It lacks detail on many models, and particularly on changes over time to each model. Some of the photos are also inaccurate. It is certainly a worthy addition to a gun library, and will help with information on the few old models you might have, but not the only thing a collector might want..

From p.5 "I believe that that the values cited in this book represent the average values that the reader will encounter, not only in internet auctions, but in retail gun shops and at local gun shows." Wow, if only that were true. I could pick up new in box firearms for $1200.00 and sell them for $5000 or more! Granted, a book with a copyright of 2013 tends to use older values prior to printing. Most of the auctions quoted are from 2007. Huh? That's 6 years prior to publication. So, take the quote on p.5 with a huge grain of salt. Prices for many of these pristine Colts have tripled since then. As a reference volume, not a bad book. Would recommend to the Colt collector. Just ignore the pricing.

The photos and descriptions really help with identification within a production series. Good information for Colt collectors of both revolvers and automatics.
