Excellent quality and it works!
I so wish I had found this quality product years ago. I had tried something similar with wires for cutting in the pastry. Complete waste of money and time. This is very different! I have tried for many years to make pastry. I haven't tried very often because I have known that the result is pretty much always going to be rubbish. Not exactly inedible, just not something anyone will rush back to have more, including me. The answer has arrived in the shape of the Orblue pastry cutter/blender. In fact it arrived a few days ago but I have hesitated to try it as I was sure it would be yet another disappointment. I can't say I found it easy but was much better than the rubbing in method, it took quite a bit of pressure to cut through the hard butter and lard (maybe it should be a bit softer for this method?) but in a fairly short time I got to the sort of consistency I had seen others get in videos. Mixed the iced water in and briefly pushed into a disc shape and into the fridge wrapped in cling film. Not wanting to waste any expensive ingredients I settled for a corned beef and vegetable pie. It was completely successful. At last a pastry that was nicely textured, tasted nice and others were saying wow! My wife is not keen on pies/pastry (not entirely due to my efforts but mainly bought products) but she literally cleared her plate. For me this was high praise. She always leaves the crust at least, not his time. Completely cleared her plate. The pastry cutter/blender is very well made as many others have commented. Very sturdy and comfortable to use. This product was bought by myself for myself and I have not had any discount or other inducement to write this review. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Sturdy
Well made, substantial, easy to use. Butter does stick to the blades when hand washed but fine in diswaher. Yes this is value for money and I think it will last a long time.

An Excellent Tool for Effortless Pastry Making
My mother always used one of these to make her pasty, and when I first set up home she gave me one as a present. I somehow lost it along the way, and for several years now have been rubbing-in by hand. But it's such a chore, and hard work, too. I finally decided I needed to go back to the way I was taught, and thought that I'd invest in the best quality cutter I could find. It's very well made; a nice rubberised handle and strong blades that won't bend. It also looks very stylish too. And it work as well as ever. The blades cut into the fat, whether butter, marge or lard, straight from the fridge and quickly combine it with the flour. It it so much less effort than mixing by hand, and so much cleaner as well. If you find making pasty a chore and haven't tried one of these, I'd strongly recommend it.

Terrifically effective.
If, like me, you like baking (and eating) scones but the thought of 'gently rubbing the butter into the flour and sugar mixture' fills you with a nameless dread, then this piece of kit is for you. Seriously though, it's really very good. The whole process of rubbing in the butter took at most 5 minutes. None of the aches & pains in the wrist and fingers afterwards and the result was nothing short of perfection, even for me who is not exactly the worlds most patient nor proficient baker. The only thing I would say is that for the first minute or so you will need to clear the blades with a knife occasionally as they tend to get blocked with butter, but soon enough the butter just disappears into a soft, crumbly and perfectly even mix. This is not the only one of these on the market but this one is strong, sturdily and ergonomically made and fits the hand perfectly. It really is that good. Treat yourself.

Excellent gadget for making pastry or crumble
Excellent gadget for making pastry or crumble. It is sturdy and well made with a comfortable, rubberised handle grip. The first crumble I made was much 'crumblier' than when rubbing butter into flour by hand. I think this is because the butter remains much colder and so produces a finer and dryer crumble. In fact, I used butter straight from the fridge - no need to soften. Most pastry instructions talk about 'lightly' rubbing the fat in. This is something I plainly can't do and I gave up making pastry years ago after less than impressive results. Just made my first pastry with the cutter and it's light and flaky - most impressed. It worked well to vertically cut the fat into the flour until it's in small pieces and then rock the cutter to and fro until you have a fine crumb. I've spent a lot of money on gadgets that don't work but this one certainly does. And easy to clean too!

I grew up in the U.S. in the 50's and 60s. That is when I learned baking skills from my mother and when I became familiar with the pastry cutter. This tool is essential for making pie dough, super for blending butter and sugar when making cookie dough. I have lived in Belgium for the last 20 years and was surprised not to see these sold with other cooking utensils at the shops. Now I am retired and taking more time to bake. So, I popped online to see if pastry cutters can be found in the EU et voilà! Je l'ai trouvé. If you bake and did not know about this tool until browsing the internet for kitchen gadgets, then it is time for you to order one of these. If you knew of these and wonder about the quality of this particular version, then I can attest that it is sturdy, effective and much easier to clean than an electric blender (mixer or food processor). Enjoy!

I've started baking more than ever in the past, and suddenly I'm really enjoying it. What I was *not* enjoying was trying to blend butter into pastry flour using a fork or a couple of knives. My hat goes off to people who just do that regularly. Me, I was developing blisters. So I got in touch with a cousin who's a pastry chef (handy) and she told me that she has the Orblue Pastry Cutter. "Sold!" said I, and ran over to Amazon, expecting to find a professional (read "highly priced") item but ready to buy. So I'm delighted to report that this reasonably priced tool is just terrific. It fits well in my hand; it's a good sturdy gauge of steel so doesn't give way when working with frozen butter; the business end of the cutter is made of one piece of metal so no teensy components to come loose or fall into the batter; I can keep my forks for dining and spearing pickles. Life is good and I can recommend the product, always a good feeling. Thanks
