Q: The vertical piece of wood on my gate is 8cm wide, is the enough space to drill a hole for the cyclinder?

For the cylinder ... yes but to mount the bracket you need a minimum of 12cm. I had to add a block of wood to the gate to ensure the lock was solidly mounted.

No. The cylinder is static. As you turn the key it slides the bolt open on the other side of the gate

Q: My door is hung the other way to the picture ie hinges to the right from the inside. Would this still be suitable ?

No problem - the bolt is symmetrical and goes all the way through from one side to the other.
