Review: Excellent cat flap - I originally bought an alternative cat flap based on my boys sizes and weights, but having fitted it, it soon became obvious that it was far too small. I don't think my boys are excessively large, they are Siamese cross and weigh 6-6.5kg. I genuinely did not believe they would need a large cat flap - but I was wrong. This cat flap is excellent quality and fits beautifully in our wooden kitchen door. Absolutely no draught gets through, but it is still easy enough for the boys to push. The locking mechanism could perhaps be simpler, but once you suss out how it works, it's no big deal. It's a very solid, quality item. My boys are 3 years old and had never used a cat flap before, with the exception of the previous purchase that was too small. Having struggled with that one, I wondered if it would put them off trying with this one, but the initial hesitance lasted no more than a few hours before they realised they could get through this one so much easier. I admit, the original cat flap was cheaper, but you can't put a price on your cats happiness, and it's not as if this was overpriced, it is worth every penny. Definitely recommended. Review: large cat flap - Flexible Access Control The 4-way lock is very handy. You can restrict exit or entry depending on the time of day, guard against unwanted visitors, or fully lock the flap when needed. Good for households with multiple pets, or when you want to control cat traffic. Good Weatherproofing The brush seal and magnetic flap help with draughts and keeping out rain. The opening is large enough for many big cats and small dogs The 3-year guarantee is a plus. For what you’re getting good value for money cons i found the screws to be a bit small worried they come lose over time the locking tabs are only operable from the exterior, which may limit convenience or security ## Features - Warning:Not suitable for children under 3 years. Not opaque (my old cat door was probably what you call opaque, like a haze or film over it; this is definitely clear in comparison). **Q: Will this work in an alluminum storm door? Our cat is 16 lbs will it accomodate his size?** A: The unit may stick out depending how thick the aluminum door is. I have it in a inside wooden door at a thickness of an inch and a half. It should work but it may not be flush on both sides. I would try though. As for the cat size, I've got 2. 20 / 21lb maine coons , they walk right through with no problem whatsoever. The only door I was able to find to accommodate large cats. Again, I would buy and try. Scot **Q: How big is the required hole in the door?** A: Thanks so much for answering my question... **Q: What are the exterior dimensions of this pet door.???** A: 9"wide x 9.5" long. That's the frame exterior. It works great! I have it on an inside door to my bedroom. I can lock them out when I want to sleep. Or let them come in for morning cuddle time. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent cat flap *by K***S on 7 May 2025* I originally bought an alternative cat flap based on my boys sizes and weights, but having fitted it, it soon became obvious that it was far too small. In the end I removed the locks as I don't really need them anyway and I was too worried about them getting locked out. My cats are not very intelligent 🀣 however it only took 2 days to become fully fledged cat flap users, now there's no stopping them! I can't didn't fit this myself, I paid a builder to do it and it only took him about 30mins so it was pretty easy , but I don't have the knowledge how or the tools so I wouldn't have attempted it myself. It went easily into a composite door with moulded panels, he just used a really high quality silicone. ## Frequently Bought Together - Cat Mate Large 4-Way Cat Door for Large Cats and Small Dogs with Magnetic Catch and Durable, Rigid Flap - Brown - Cat Mate Wall Liner - Compatible with Large Closer Pets, Cat Mate & Dog Mate Pet Flaps 221 & 357, White (Pack of 1) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.nz/products/49290911-cat-mate-large-cat-and-small-dog-flap-secure-4](https://www.desertcart.nz/products/49290911-cat-mate-large-cat-and-small-dog-flap-secure-4) --- *Product available on Desertcart New Zealand* *Store origin: NZ* *Last updated: 2026-10-05*
