Accessible to the novice
I needed to terminate fiber and all the pros in my area are booked out for months. Using this and with 0 previous experience I was able to terminate 12 OS2 strands using premade pigtails. This isn't a perfect machine, and there's things I don't like about it. However for the cost and the fact I was able to successfully complete a specialist task with it as a novice I've got to give it 5 stars. Things I don't like / things to watch out for: - You need a cell phone and the app. You can splice without using the app but you need the app to configure and calibrate it. - The heater doors snap shut way too easy. I found getting the splice with the sleeve into the heater to be the most fiddly part, and several times the holders snapped shut when I didn't want them to or wasn't ready. One will snap shut with the slightest bump, and caught a fiber a couple times. Not good. - I don't like how it times out and goes back to the "Download the app page". I'd prefer it to stay in the splicing view as sometimes seeing the fiber on the display makes loading easier. I had problems a couple times where a strand wanted to curve outside the camera viewing range, and not being able to see it until the main door was closed meant several misloads. - With some protective sleeves I needed to run two heat cycles to get a full melt. That said, what I do like: - The removable battery is nice. I like that I can charge the battery while the unit is in the protective carrying case. - I like the case, and wish it had another drawer for things like a offcut can, wipes, and pigtails. - The overall splicing user experience is good. Load the fiber, push the "go" button. Either it splices or gives you a visual of what's wrong. It can be a bit over-sensitive on cut quality, but you get an eye for it and can try a splice anyway. Better too sensitive than not sensitive enough. No problems with the cleaver. I didn't use the stripper it came with or the alcohol bottle. Overall 5 stars. Good starter tool.
