This is rare game for the SNES, but if you can get your hands on it, I say do it. A relatively short game, it can be finished in 6-8 hours, and still packs a punch. The graphics are good when compared to other games of its time and genre. It's one of those games that grabs you and doesn't let go - I finished it recently in three sittings, just couldn't turn away from it. This is a rather challenging game - you can get killed early in the game just as easily as you can on the final boss. The controls are crisp and fast, and story and levels are engaging. While not on the level of the Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger games that this game is a mesh of, it is still worthy of considerable replay. I bought a used copy on Amazon recently for some nostalgia and was glad of it, lot of fun. Pick it up! Could also have some high resale value in 10+ yrs. ### ⭐⭐ Bottom of the Barrel. *by C***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 5, 2016* Honestly I think the "good" and even "great" reviews this game gets are nostalgia fueled. I had never played or seen this game back in the day (it was released in 1992) but I've read plenty of positive reviews on the web concerning it over the years and finally decided to pick it up for my recently dusted off SNES.I would describe Ys III as an Action RPG similar to the Adventure of Link, and Faxanadu on the NES. Ys sports a high difficulty which was typical for the games of its day, however that difficult isn't rooted in combat, tough bosses or skill based jumping, it's rooted in a significant level grinding requirement. Its also worth noting that as a platformer there is almost no substance to be found, there are very few objects to really jump over, slide under, or otherwise maneuver around. The plot is weak (really just a few sparse sentences about where to go next) and there is almost no exploration to be had, you primarily just dodge between the one town in the game and your next dungeon in a repetitive fashion. I find Ys to be pretty bare bones when it comes to both game play and presentation, it has something of a cult following but I think most people haven't heard of it for a reason.Ys short-comings stand out to me a when you compare it to some of the other games that came out on the SNES in 1992: Contra 3, Joe and Mac, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Magic Sword, Prince of Persia, Super Star Wars, Super Adventure Island, Xardion, Super Double Dragon, and TMNT 4: Turtles in Time are all examples of games that are 2D platformers or have 2D platforming elements that do a better job being entertaining than Ys III.I don't hate the game but there are just so many better examples within its genre and it just feels like a weak clone of The Adventures of Link. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Phenomenal service *by R***4 on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 25, 2020* Fast and phenomenal service.
