A useful engineering tool and also a bit of fun for car enthusiasts. Worth spending that little bit more to get a quality item.
Unlike the many many obd2 devices available on amazon, the obdlink LX oozes quality. The packaging is good, the instructions easy to follow and the device itself is well built and looks the part. Setup is a doddle, install the app, plug in the obd2 dongle into the obd port of you car (usually under the steering wheel column behind a little cover). Turn the key 2 steps in the ignition without turning over the engine. Then you simply pair the device by opening your bluetooth settings and scanning for the dongle, then pressing the little button on the front of the dongle itself. Pairing should take no time at all. Once paired, the only thing left to do is open the obdlink app from the app store you previously installed and then select the newly paired device in settings and hey presto! You are done. Being my first and only odb dongle I wanted to test how responsive/laggy this device was between my phone and the actual car dashboard display. Having seen many of the cheaper dongles in use on youtube and the lag between reality and the readout on the phone I was very surprised to see that there was hardly any lag at all. Yes, there is lag but it is so small that it is barely there at all. I also installed torque pro and tried this next, again, setup was a doddle, just opened settings in the app, selected my previously paired device and within 10 or 20 seconds it was actively connected. The other important feature of this particular dongle is that it powers down when not in use and wakes up when the key is in the ignition. I tested this, I didn't want to leave it draining my battery so I left the car for 30 minutes and came back and I was not able to connect to the dongle. How useful is this device? Well, its a bit early to tell, but I can really see that it will be a useful thing to have around. Already I am seeing 2 error entries in my car and the app allows me to go directly to a website with a single click. It is also easy to clear errors with a single press.

Fully functional with MG/ROVER/BMW ECU unlike cheaper copies.
Does everything it says it does, there is a free app on google play which works very well, and has a windows app that syncs with the android app. I am using this with Torque which is even better than the stock app. and has more features, plugins, etc. and is aimed at the UK market (stock app seems more for US market). The unit can be left plugged in as it will switch off automatically when you leave the car, so is more than just a diagnostic tool, it is great for live dashboard information, either by mounting your phone or by going the whole hog and permanently fitting an android tablet as a combined ECU/Engine monitor and media player. Smaller than other units, so does not bump my leg when driving, shows all the ECU info, and shows faults that are expected to happen but have not happened yet, which is very useful. When checking fault codes, Torque links to a website that explains symptoms, possible causes, and how to fault find. Can be used to monitor fuel use, MPG, how carefully you drive, trip recording, there are a number of plugins you can add on to the third party Torque app. as well as theme. I bought a cheaper chinese type OBD prior to this one and it was not much use at all, does not work with my ECU and only read a couple of vehicle (non-ECU) sensors. This really is the one to go for if you intend leaving it connected all the time and want the fastest polling rates for live dashboard.

Works perfect on a BMW F850 GS Adventure 2020
I seen a video on YouTube about this and thought yes I’ll buy it has my warranty is up on my bike in August this year so I’ll be doing my own service from now on this OBD works perfect also you have to download the moto scan app on a android or Windows I’ve downloaded it onto my android phone you have to pay £21.87 here in the Uk 🇬🇧 to get the full use of it I downloaded and paid for the professional one you purchase in via app. Also you need to download the OBD APP TO Register it. All straight forward connect via Bluetooth, OBD and phone and you’re away. Plug it into your bike ignition on and it all comes up on your phone screen you pick what model you have scroll through to which part of the bike you need to change I used dash to try it and it worked perfectly hope this helps you make your mind up in buying I highly recommend it DEREK from the UK 🇬🇧

Nice unit
Some great apps on the net to hook up to. I like the fact you can leave it in place. Bit pricey compared to some I think this is now superceded by an upgraded unit

The best around
Well worth the extra money if you want the speed and massive compatibility this offers. I had a cheap eBay one and it refused to work with my Mum's Micra and Brother's 350Z and it barely worked on my 2004 Ibiza FR. Infuriatingly slow sensor speed using Torque. It was useless. This scanner is flawless though. Get fast update speeds on Torque on my 2005 A3, it has worked perfectly with every car I've plugged it into so far and it's built extremely well. If you want the full experience OBD2 offers, get this. Don't get the cheap scanners, they'll only disappoint you.
