No, the sub is wireless and the satellite speaker wire is included (plugs into the sub).

Are the rear speakers wireless?

No, the rear surround speakers are wired. They plug-in to the Subwoofer. So you'll want to put your subwoofer somewhere closer to the back, where your surround speakers will be.

I can’t comment on an 18 foot ceiling as mine are 11ft high. However, they do have a great sound in my application. Two issues. The book of instructions is not very clear. Maybe just me , but it is not very intuitive. I did have trouble with the controller that was supplied, however it was replaced with no hassle. One more issue. Most of the rear speaker stands, at least on Amazon, did not work with the mounting system. I found one, but it took some research

My tv has a standard HDMI connection and an Optical Digital connection, but not an ARC HDMI....so which is better for this Vizio Sound Bar?

The sound isn’t affected by the ARC HDMI connection only your volume control will be. The ARC HDMI connection allows your regular TV remote work the sound bar. With a regular HDMI connection you’ll have to use the sound bar volume remote to control the volume and the TV remote for switching channels and everything else.
