When I received these pointers they did not work. After trying to get to the batteries I finally discovered that the end cap where the chain is attached can be screwed off. Very tight fit and hard to remove. I thought I was damaging the device but it did finally come loose. It is very hard to open though. Watch out, the batteries quickly fall out. There is a reddish colored little circle of plastic that you toss away. It's just to keep the batteries from connecting. Once all done, the light works very well. Very bright laser, sort of not very bright little flashlight. I didn't get these for the flashlight feature, just for the lasers. Great price on a pack of 5 of these. They seem to be solid and can withstand being dropped. I would have put more stars if the battery space had been indicated somewhere.

UNSCREW THE BACK AND TAKE OUT THE SMALL PURPLE/RED PIECE THAT IS OVER THE BATTERY TO KEEP IT FROM DYING ON THE SHELF. CATS ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

This product is not what it appears to be I ordered the six laser lights before and they were larger and they had three lights in it this only has two and it was considerably smaller and the batteries lasted much shorter

Cats just LOVE THEM!! They came in all the right colors! Each of us got a favorite! High quality, good design, and a high value fun outing for the cats! The compact size allows us to carry them around, or just leave them where we know our little troublemakers are known to pounce!!

REMOVE PINK SEQUIN FROM BATTERY COMPARTMENT. Saw a few reviews about either item not working, or back screw-on cap too loose. You need to remove the pink sequin, for your item to work! (which I am assuming is the battery protector put in for shipping -- there are no instructions to do this.) These work as expected, great! Comes with BOTH a laser and led light. Simple, light(weight). Can't comment on battery life yet, even if the life sucks, for the price, they seem great!
