Judge Stainless Steel High Roaster with Rack and Self Basting Lid 32cm x 22cm x 18.5cm Oven Safe

I actually can't review this item properly yet as I haven't used it! However, it certainly looks the part and appears to be professional-quality stainless steel of good construction and big enough for a beef, leg of lamb or large chicken roast. It's certainly better than the much smaller aluminium version that I used to have and more convenient than using aluminium foil, and without the disadvantages that aluminium can bring to long-term health. In my opinion a good price for a useful kitchen tool that should last a lifetime. Will post a future update following use. UPDATE 6 JUNE 15 Have just cooked my first leg of lamb in this roaster. No faffing about with extra-wide aluminium foil that is invariably too small no matter how much you pull off the roll, causing unexpected gaps allowing juices to evaporate and escape into the oven, coating the inside of the oven with grease, and affecting the quality of the finished dish. Also no chance of the sharp leg bone puncturing foil because the plastic 'guard' (can't remember the technical term) has fallen off or has melted, thus allowing ALL of the juices to escape and causing the equivalent of an oven oilspill requiring a serious and lengthy clean-up operation (and worst of all --- no gravy!) And no more concern about the health effects of using aluminium for cooking. Having got past the moaning about the past, this roaster is a joy to use. It's a good size, feels very sturdy and 'seems right for the job'. It's also very easy to clean afterwards. I'll admit that the lambleg was slightly overcooked because of my cautiousness and not being used to this particular item, but it was still very good lamb, along with the plentiful gravy produced using the retained juices. I'll get it spot on next time. One of the best pieces of kitchen equipment that I've ever bought. I would buy another but I suspect that I'll never need to.

Replaced a not so ancient but chipped and sad looking enamel roaster with this stainless steel roaster. Worth the extra few pounds compared to the enamel roasters on sale. 1. slightly larger and wire rack in the bottom is great for joints/chickens etc.... 2. cleans up 99% better in the dishwasher and by hand than the old one 3. handles make it easy to remove from the hot oven 4. not a great deal of evidence for the self basting feature - maybe because the lid doesn't fit that snuggly on mine But overall - great Sunday roaster and pleased with purchase

Great for roasting chicken that will brown and remains moist within a couple of hours. It’s fairly easy to wash clean but after a few uses will require soaking to remove burnt on food and return shine to the stainless steel.

This is a really lovely item. It's very well made and a good weight and quality of stainless steel. Well done to the manufacturer for such good design. We are using it is our new induction cooker which we are so pleased with and trying hard to keep the oven clean. This helps a great deal when roasting meat with plenty of space around the joint for roasted potatoes and parsnips. It wouldn't fit a high or large turkey or cockerel but for normal sized joints and birds is ideal.

I bought this item because my son recommended using this type of lidded roaster. It is the ideal size to roast a large chicken or a meat joint and it fits my oven. It is not very heavy. Thinner sheet metal. Seems well constructed. Lid fits well. Handles are offset to reduce length and to fit the oven better. It has a well polished finish. I like the polished stainless steel, as it matches my Stellar Classic pots and pans which are 18/10 strong stainless steel. The only reservation I had was that the grade of stainless steel used for this item is not specified on the box nor in the advert. I checked the internet and the grade is not available. Stellar and Judge are both brands owned and manufactured by the same parent Indian owned company, Horwood Homewares. Based in Bristol, UK, and established in 1896, Horwood owns both brands, with Judge focusing on everyday, affordable kitchenware, while Stellar offers more premium, specialist cooking products So one must assume that this item is not made from the best quality stainless steel. I decided to take a chance on it anyway. After all, it has a 25 year guarantee.

Induction hobs are great but you need to buy the right cookware. This Thermic Roaster is perfect. It does everything the other roasters do; great roasts, self-basting, keeps the juices in so you get great gravy and the grill keeps your food out of all the fluids in the bottom of the pot and best of all, it keeps your oven clean. BUT, the important bit for induction hobs, you can use it on the hob too. Fabulous as now you can keep your gravy hot and available while the meat is resting. Design-wise you can't go wrong; it looks a bit odd with off-set handles but when you use it in the oven you discover that they are exactly where you want them for good balance and ease of use. What would I like? To be able to buy a bigger one; you can get a good sized roast in it, but there are bigger non thermic ones available - ideal for celebration meals when this one might be a little small. Problems encountered so far, only the one. I haven't worked out how to get great crackling on roast pork, it tends to come out chewy rather than crunchy. I'm sure there must be a way - perhaps just taking the lid of for a while.
