## Description

Product Description 180 grams audiophile vinyl About the Artist In 1967 Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie played in the legendary John Mayall & The Blues Breakers, and were given free studio time during which they recorded five songs. Peter Green was so convinced of this band's musical prowess that he formed it on the spot and named it after the drummer & the bass player. John McVie, however, wasn't convinced yet, and it forced Fleetwood Mac to find a temporary replacement in Bob Burning. After a short while, however, he was as hooked on the Elmore James influenced British Blues, that he left John Mayall to take a risk on a group of unknowns. The rest is history. 'Fleetwood Mac' the self-titled debut album, was released in 1968, and was one of the highlights of the late British Blues movement, climbing to the #4 slot in the UK album charts without producing one single, and managing to stay in the charts for 37 weeks. It was a traditional blues album true to form, but one that also showcased Peter Green's budding singing and songwriting skills; 'I Loved A Woman' has a hint of the Latin Blues fusion he would perfect in 'Black Magic Woman' a year later, while 'Looking For Somebody' balanced humour and vulnerability that would come to characterize their style. This sought-after record is back out on vinyl for the first time in almost 35 years!

Review: Fleetwood Mac - In the Beginning - I bought this LP some 30 years ago and subsequently, lent it to somebody and it never was returned. At the time I was going out with a girl and we both saw them live at Pennycross Stadium in Plymouth as we were really big fans, the very night the Americans landed on the moon - 1969. I will always remember that night as it was the first time I had seen a band live and Gerry Spencer blew me away. He was fantastic. I'll always love their music and recently, I saw Peter Green in Bath, still a great guitarist but sadly, a man ravaged by the effects of an earlier life with drugs. Saw Mick Fleetwood and John McVie a few years ago in London with the 'new' Fleetwood Mac and that was a bit special too. I actually found Gerry Spencer on the net recently - living and playing in Norway. This album was a bit special and still is. Brings back so many memories. Black Magic Women still sounds new and earth shattering. It's in my iPod together with all the other tracks now so I have them with me wherever I go.
Review: The Best British Blues - I first came across this album working in a burger bar in 1990. The boss’s daughter out on a tape and it was like a revelation. I had always thought the Rolling Stones were THE authentic British blues band, up to that point. This album is one that disproves that beyond measure. The playing is simply extraordinary. The Duns and bass of Fleetwood/McVie really is one of the best ever, holding together a great groove, and keeping it sparse where it’s needed. The playing of Peter Green And Jeremy Spencer is so evenly matched. PG was of course a legend even at that moment, but Jeremy Spencer never gets enough credit for his slide playing, better the Brian Jones and much more soulful. The tracks are a great mix, and unbelievably almost half the tracks are written by Spencer and/or Green. Authentic, clean and dirty blues, beautifully produced by Mike Vernon. Extra tracks not required...... but they’re there anyway. Buy it.
