## Questions & Answers

**Q: I'm connected to a dc 12v cigarette outlet. why doi keep receiving the f1 code?**
A: This is for everyone who uses the 12volt power cord provided with the Alpicool unit, and is experiencing F1 codes.
Bear with me, electrical stuff can get a bit complicated.
Voltage-drop in the Alpicool's original power cord and cigarette-lighter male connector may be a part of the problem.
On the 12 volt power cord's outer insulation, the printed information appears to say the cord is #16 gauge, which is small for a 12 volt application like this.
And ... if there is a significant drop in the voltage being provided to the cigarette-lighter style power point in your vehicle, that's part of the problem, too.
In a 12 volt system, voltage-drop is a problem, and this is why heavy-gauge wires must be used.
Your batteries might still have plenty of charge, and you can still get an F1 code.
Using my T36 plugged into a cigarette-lighter type of outlet in my van, the voltage reading on the T36's display panel is usually about 0.4-0.8v lower than what's available at the battery terminals of my van's 220 amp-hour battery bank.
Keep in mind that it is the voltage available right where the power cord plugs into the refrigerator, that the unit probably uses to decide whether or not to trigger an F1 code.
When the Alpicool first starts up a cooling cycle, the increased current draw results in an even greater voltage drop, for a short time.
That short time is the most likely time an F1 code would appear.
Using a pretty good voltmeter, I found that much of this voltage drop happens in the #16 connector cord that is provided with the Alpicool T36, and the cigarette-lighter male connector on the end of that cord. The long length of this cord is probably part of the voltage drop.
The rest of the voltage drop, about 0.2v is happening in other areas of my electrical system, which consists of 4 large AGM batteries charged by a grid-powered charger.
The considerable voltage drop in the Alpicool's connector cord, and within the cigarette-lighter type of connection, could trigger an F1 code, even when your battery bank's voltage is not low enough to trigger that.
This is especially true during the first few seconds after the Alpicool starts up.
Using the Alpicool's "L" setting for the low-battery-voltage cutoff, might be a "have to" for many people who use the original 12 volt cord that plugs into a cigarette-lighter socket.
To solve the voltage-drop problem with the Alpicool's 12v power cord, I cut the cord (sure hated to do that), about 6" from the refrigerator end, firmly attached a #12 cord to that short end, and wired the other end of the #12 cord to the nearest 12volt source I could find .. that has a solid connection to the battery bank.
I did this keeping the new #12 cord as short as possible.
Keep in mind that cutting the original Alpicool cord might cause a customer service problem if the Alpicool fails in any way, and you have to return it.
But, I do believe that the original Alpicool cord should be #12 or #10 wire instead of the lighter gauge wire that it is.
This is especially true since the unit does draw about 9amps for a short while after startup.
This is for a T36, a T50 or T60 might draw more than 9amps at startup.
And using a cigarette-lighter type of power point, is always going to result in a small voltage drop.
For those of us who use a 12 volt system to power the Alpicool, this is a reminder that power-cord connections have to be good, and wires have to be HEAVY GAUGE.
I know this is a bit long, but having this information might help you avoid a few problems with an otherwise nice refrigerator.
great refrigerator so far,
best regards

**Q: Has anyone used this longer than 2 years?**
A: I've used one for 1 year, having it run nonstop in my Van for 5 out of the 12 months of on and off use. No problems so far and it works great. It was the one with the LG compressor. Hoping it will continue to work, but time will tell. I've already saved a ton over eating out when I'm away from home months at a time. Well worth it. I'm sure a better brand might last longer, but at over $1k I'm not going to invest in one.

**Q: does this unit have a low voltage adjustment like on the dometic so the cooler does not shut off from a low voltage power source like a lithium gen.?**
A: The battery protection settings are Low, Medium and High. I have not found a way to completely turn off any protection, but I read somewhere there might be a way to do it. Just setting it to low may work for you (9.6V off;10.9V on). You can contact the seller to see if there is a way to set it to off to allow for lower voltages from a lithium power source, since they can deplete much more than a standard AGM or conventional lead acid battery without causing any damage to the battery.

**Q: How do you change from C to F**
A: Turn unit off - Press and hold "set" button till F1 appears.... you can then change F or C

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Everybody should have 1 of these

This cooler is perfect, We have made a few trips moving across the country, we keep stuff for sandwiches so we don't have to eat McCrap wile on the road. It works great in hot weather and in colder weather. I did buy the insulated cover for it as it travels in the back of the truck. while travelling it keeps drinks cold and keeps ice cream bars frozen solid. We do unplug it at night when we stop to rest. In the morning the freezer portion is still 12* - 18* and is back down to 0* in about a half hour. We also plan to use it for costco runs for frozen foods as we're about an hour out of a big city. no disappointments on this. Runs 12 volts cig lighter socket or plugs into the wall outlet with the furnished adapter. It cools from room temperature to 35* in the fridge section and 15*ish in the freezer in about an hour, fully cold in about 2 hours. Doesn't seem to draw much on the battery either and has 3 level battery shut off so you won't be stranded if you leave it plugged it. Did I say that I love it?UPDATE: Last month on a cross country trip the freezer compartment quit responding, I contacted Amazon who contacted the seller Alpicool about warranty, Alpicool promptly sent me a new unit which arrived in 3 business days and sent me a return shipping label for the old unit. You can't ask for better service then that. This is a great unit and I opted for a replacement rather then a refund. Even with an issue I highly recommend this cooler. Excellent product and excellent seller. I also recommend getting the insulated cover, handy pockets to store the cords and protects the cooler.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Refrigerator/Icebox
*by on Reviewed in the United States 6 August 2022*

We do a fair amount of cross-country driving. Usually have a cooler w/us depending on the trip. This trip was a 4 day drive and we had to bring in food supplies and needed to stay frozen. During the trip up, dry ice was particularly hard to find. Regular Ice just didn't keep the meats frozen like we needed. For the return trip, we purchased the Alpicool T60 Fridge/Freezer. Looking at primarily the freezer operation in this case to haul back the fish, meat and vegetables we were bringing home. The Cooler met and exceeded my expectations. When we got it, read thru the instructions and got it cooling down to -10 degrees w/in about 45 min. on AC pwr. If using only as a freezer, it's very easy to operate. To use as a Fridge/Freezer, you place the patrician back in and it splits the operation of the cooler into a Freezer/Fridge operation. You can set each section individually at the temps you want. In our case we only needed the Freezer operation for this trip.Works really well whether on AC power or DC power. Since it didn't have a battery to keep it running at night when we'd stop, we'd roll the cooler into our room and plug it in. Back in the truck, back on DC power. Operationally was great. By the time we got the Cooler home, it had started to develop frost inside the cooler and everything was frozen solid.Had two complaints about it, but not enough of an issue to me to drop a star off the rating.1. The instructions were not laid out well. The instruction manual had multiple models listed in the manual. Was confusing at first which page was for our unit. Because there was so much info on the pamphlet, the text was small and in my opinion, needed to be re-written to make the instructions more clear & simple. As a Tech minded guy, I knew what they were trying to say, others may have struggled w/it.My suggestion for them is the just have the one pamphlet for the one product only on the sheet. I know it will cost a few more pennies to have multiple instruction pamphlets, but think it would be worth it.2. Was not impress w/the handles to move the cooler. Yes it had wheels on it, but when you have one of the larger coolers loaded, depending on what you are hauling, the cooler could be 40 to 65 pounds or more. As they coolers get larger, My suggestion would be to add another set of wheels on the other end of the cooler so you could just pull it along.Trying to roll the cooler w/the extended handle they provide, made for a strenuous lean and bend of the back when you go from parking lots to rooms and back.As well, the handle that you use, should be thicker and rounded, maybe even padded. Would fit the hand better. After moving the cooler into my room the first night, I had very red pinch marks on my hands from hauling the cooler to my room. Took a few days for the pinch/bruising to go away. Was it the end of the world, no, just a bit of an annoyment. Moving forward, I'm going to get one of those little collapsable luggage dollies and will be all good. Like I said, my 2 gripes, were just that gripes. Not show stoppers by any mean.Overall though; Fantastic cooler. very pleased with it. Highly recommend it!
