Chic and Functional: Review of the Smeg 50's Retro Style 7-Cup Electric Kettle
The Smeg 50's Retro Style 7-Cup Electric Kettle is a fantastic addition to any kitchen, combining eye-catching design with practicality. Its retro aesthetic adds a touch of vintage flair that instantly brightens up the countertop. One of the first things I noticed is the kettle's robust build quality. The stainless steel construction not only looks sleek but also ensures durability. The 7-cup capacity is perfect for making multiple cups of tea or coffee, making it a great choice for gatherings or family breakfasts. The kettle heats water quickly, thanks to its powerful heating element. I appreciate the precision of the temperature control feature, which allows me to select the perfect heat for different beverages, whether it’s black tea, green tea, or even instant noodles! Another highlight is the easy-to-read water level indicator, which takes the guesswork out of filling. The spout is designed for easy pouring without spills, and the removable filter helps keep water pure and free of impurities. Cleaning is simple, as the wide opening makes it easy to access the interior. Overall, the Smeg 50's Retro Style Electric Kettle is not only functional but also a beautiful statement piece for any kitchen. If you’re looking for style and performance in one package, this kettle is definitely worth considering!

SMEG Kettle, Sleek Design, Simple to Use
I recently added the SMEG 7-Cup Electric Kettle in Glossy Black to my kitchen, and I couldn’t be happier with it—especially since it perfectly matches my SMEG toaster! The glossy black finish is sleek and classic, and having the two side by side really ties everything together. The retro design adds a stylish touch, but still blends beautifully with my more modern kitchen. Beyond the looks, the kettle performs just as well as you’d hope. It heats water quickly and quietly, and the 7-cup capacity is perfect whether I’m making a single cup of tea or a full French press. The soft-opening lid is one of those little details that makes a big difference—it opens gently, without that sudden snap-back you get with other kettles. It just feels smooth and thoughtfully designed. Another feature I really appreciate is the built-in limescale filter. It helps keep the water clean and the kettle in great shape, especially since I live in an area with hard water. Cleaning is super easy, and I know it’ll last longer because of that. Overall, it’s a perfect combination of form and function. It looks gorgeous on the counter, works beautifully, and matches my toaster perfectly. Highly recommend if you’re building a kitchen setup that’s both practical and stylish!

Poor Quality
The quality is extremely disappointing. The plastic construction made the lid and handle feel cheap however we loved the design so we kept it. After only 3 months of careful use the gold paint is showing wear on the lid button and has small chips on the side. We trusted SMEG to stand by their reputation for quality but was again disappointed by the response received after being asked to submit a warranty claim. “Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your SMEG product. We’ve reviewed your case, and after careful consideration, we’ve determined that the issue with your product is due to a cosmetic flake, which is not covered under the terms of our warranty. We understand this may be disappointing, and we are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.” Cosmetic flake is not acceptable for a premium kitchen appliance that is meant for daily use.

Great quality and heats water fast
Heats the water quickly and it gets scalding hot! Never had an issue with it and it looks great next to my SMEG toaster! It’s great quality, I love the design, and it’s well worth the money.

Sure why not - it’s really cute
After owning an electric kettle for years (I’m a tea drinker and drinks tea every day), this my 4rd brand of kettle that I’ve owned. I don’t buy until they break. My first one lasted for 5 years, the second one for another 5 years. This kettle does the job and its appearance is the cutest and my favorite look among the three. Now for the things I don’t really like: 1. Basic functionality like my first one which is just On/Off BUT this one is stainless steel (my first one is pure plastic). 2. I don’t get the little alarm anymore when my water is boiling (my second one makes the sounds which is really good for busy momma in the morning.) BUT this is just breaking the usual habit (for 5 yrs) so I guess I can live with it and will get used to it. 3. For 2 days, I DID NOT like the taste, the plastic smell or burnt steel smell of my hot water and this is after ‘wasting’ almost 3-4 gallons of boiled water or about 8-10 batch of water hoping it will change as per some reviews here in Amazon. I tossed these water on my sink while keep telling myself ‘it’s good for the sink’. Finally gave up after 8-10 tries (sorry I literally lost count). Really close to returning this cute item at that point. Then I said I’ll give it another try this time, I’ll be opening the cover and let it boil, closely monitoring if it’s actually boiling, then close the lid until the little guy (on and off lever) would go up -sensing that the water is boiling. Poured the water in my tea cup and this time, the bad smell and taste is less distracting or not as strong than usual. As of writing, I’m still doing the same thing. 4. I noticed the dark spots at the bottom of the inside kettle (I read how you call it in someone’s review but I couldn’t be bothered to check it now). Anyhow, I give it 4 stars because of that dark spots considering how much we paid for this item as the other little issues I think I can turn a blind eye on them. It is really cute addition in our kitchen. Hope it lasts 5 yrs (or more). ;)
