A great tool for the money. It seems to be accurate but it wont work on fiberglass cars like Corvettes. I have used it for many car purchases.

The reading results depend heavily upon how square you are to the surface. Will a small foot at the reading end, it's a challenge. Might be best set it on continuous mode and slightly tip it around to get the lowest reading. Same idea on convex/concave surfaces. The included calibration plates ensures confidence of the unit itself. I primarily use it for the delta(differences) readings rather than the absolute values.

This meter easily reads the paint on a car. Are any areas repainted? Plastic body filler buildup underneath? This meter can tell you all you need to know about the finish on a car your contemplating. It reads the paint thickness and repainted cars have a thicker coating on them. Of course, if there’s body filler underneath the paint the number will be quite high. Keep it on you when looking at cars. Put the measuring end on the paint and move around the car. The situation becomes clear. This unit uses a couple AAA batteries and not the coin battery of others. This makes it much cheaper to maintain. Nice tool

Good mil thickness gauge for the price but haven’t used it much due to bad weather in my area.
