Can you use any melting pot on the hot plate?

Yes, you can use any other melting pot aside from the one that comes with the kit.

How much soap does the pitcher/container hold? 2 lbs, 3 lbs or more?

over 2 pounds, I did two batches from a 5 pound.

Can it be used to keep product around 150°F?

It does have a dial that goes from a low setting to a high setting. You would have to have a thermometer to check temperature. Setting isn't numbered but mark more like a line that starts thin and then gets thicker to indicate raising the temperature.
