![My Name is Khan [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81olhPYhP1L.jpg)

Rizwan Khan, a Muslim from the Borivali section of Mumbai, suffers from Asperger Syndrome (a form of high-functioning autism). As an adult Rizwan marries a Hindu single mother, Mandira, in San Francisco. After 9/11, Rizwan is detained by authorities at LAX when his disability is interpreted as "suspicious" behaviour. Following his arrest, he meets Radha, a therapist who helps him deal with his situation and his affliction. Rizwan then begins a journey to meet President Obama to clear his name. Review: A beautiful, feelgood film - Khan is an "everyman" and this is one of those lovely "everyman" films. It's got everything you could possibly want - humour, romance, pathos. It makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you think. Khan is an endearing character and Shahrukh Khan gives a beautifully understated and restrained performance, which makes the character all the more believable. With a strong supporting cast this thoughtful film makes for an excellent experience. A note to anyone who has seen this film on the telly: buy the DVD anyway because there are a number of scenes in it that you don't get in the cut-for-TV version, and they help to give some of the other scenes a better context. This DVD will stay on my bookshelf and be revisited again, and again..... Review: Absolutely incredible, thought provoking and important film. Watch it!!! - This is one of the most powerful, thought-provoking, emotionally stretching films I have seen for a very long time. A deeply moving and highly accurate portrayal of autism set across the backdrop of the 9/11 tragedy in the USA - this beautiful and brutally honest, often harrowing story gives a rarely seen, balanced and insightful portrait of the struggles of the muslim community at a time of such universal fall out. It IS a long film, and of course being partially sub titled, you need to really devot your conscentration, but in all honesty, from the start right through to the end, I was utterly gripped. An educational, non pretentious and incredibly enjoyable film. Watch it.

Absolutely terrific film 10/10
This is without doubt one of the greatest films I've ever watched and I more than recommend it. If you've never seen anything from Bollywood than this is the best place to start. It's a little similar to Forrest Gump, only if that was about being essentially american, then this story goes one better because it is about being essentially human. A young man with Asperger's Syndrome makes his way through life from India to San Francisco and changes the world. I laughed, cried, sobbed, smiled, hated, loved and even had to stop watching for five minutes to shout out the window and re-evaluate my life. The strange thing is, that although Khan's performance is superb, there are director cuts that are a little bit sketchy, and 'some' translation issues, but it never matters. This is the film of the decade in my opinion and quite frankly, the best thing I've watched in years. It changed me, and there's not many films that can do that.

A very good film - definitely worth watching
My Name Is Khan is an emotional story of true love defying adversity, with bumps along the way (and thankfully comedy kept to a minimum). In many ways it is fairly atypical of a Bollywood production: it is set in the US (for the most part), features a total of zero overweight policemen with iffy moustaches and no set piece dances, and slow motion is used sparingly. It is also atypical in that the main female role, played by Kajol, overshadows the ever-wooden Shah Rukh Khan with a truly emotional and outstanding performance. It is refreshing to see Bollywood upping its game on this front. Shah Rukh is pretty good (he must have taken a few acting lessons), but he still seems to find acting a bit of a challenge in places. Have a box of tissues ready, as it is a real tearjerker, pretty much throughout. Bollywood’s skill is to somehow make emotional films which, while they could be portrayed as corny and overdone, somehow manage not to be. The “good people, bad people” message is a simple yet effective one (and who can argue with it?) and works very well as a central theme running throughout the film. If you enjoyed watching a film about people struggling against adversity whilst at the same time warming your heart and putting forth a simple yet effective message, try Barfi! or Black (both better than this one, in my opinion). If you are feeling really brave and have 209 approx minutes of your life to spare, you could try the famous and very long Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, an iconic film featuring Khan and Kajol together and in love. It’s a family drama and not for the faint hearted! A couple of words of warning: the subtitles are really very small on this DVD, so make sure you’ve got your specs on if you need them. Oh, and Khan is playing a Muslim man (whose name is also Khan, keeping things simple for him) – if you don’t realise that the plot doesn’t make much sense! And you may never look at your hairdresser in the same way again…enjoy!

An excellent choice for family movie night
You can imagine the family reaction when my wife suggested this movie....we have two boys and the last thing they wanted on family movie night was a Bollywood movie. How many dress changes and random dances would there be? How corny would the storyline be? How stereotyped would the characters be? And how long would the movie be? How we fought to avoid this film. How wrong we were.... Amazon classifies this film as a 'Bollywood' movie - do not let that put you off. This film tackles issues (Asperger's) rarely covered in Indian films - or indeed in Western films. It does it with a sensitivity and depth of acting rarely seen. Shahrukh Khan shows depths that are rarely seen by any actors. The delicate and sensitive way in which the whole issue is played is heart wrenching. At the core of the film this is a romantic film, set in the US of a Muslim boy meeting and falling in love with a Hindu girl - but it deals with multiple other issues from how Muslims are stereotyped by society; how siblings of AS sufferers feel and how an individual with AS deals with the world. It may appear slow paced but it is endearing and engaging. That it could keep our kids engaged throughout is a tribute to the quality of the cast, the script and the director. The film also brilliantly raises multiple issues about society, assumption, segregation and stereotyping. I feel the film deserves much more recognition than it has received - I highly recommend it for a family movie night. Indeed I am surprised it did not win any Oscars. It is suitable for Western / English speaking audiences.

When I first noticed this movie, I did the usual, and read the comments. After reading most of them (including what the losers wrote) I was still only half a mind to get it or not. Having left the thought behind for a couple of weeks (time to think it over). I decided to order it, In due course, it arrived, where it sat on the coffee table for a couple of weeks while I watched some more of the dvd pile sitting there. Today, aka Christmas Day, I decided to watch it. For the first ten minutes, I wasn't overly enthralled with it, but then it picked up, got interesting, then exciting. Next thing I knew, I had waterfalls running down my face.....it had become sad. There were some immortal words spoken towards the end and I quote...."Let your anger go.....just...let it go". I felt that moment was so caring, so wonderful, that I wrote it down just so I could re-tell it here. This movie, although it didn't thrill me for a few minutes, I have to say that, throughout, it excelled my expectations. The actors / actresses are superb. The acting, overall, is absolutely excellent. As with myself, your mind will be focused on the main player.....Rizwan (Khan).....played by Shah Rukh Khan (no relation). His role in the movie is just so unique. Playing the role of a very intelligent muslim (I'm not a terrorist) who's body and mind is affected by a medical problem that wins him friends and enemies. Please, please. please, this movie is an absolute must for everyone. I promise you, wholeheartedly, you will love it. You will be glad you did.

I'm a huge Bollywood fan. I have been for nearly 15years now. I practically grew up on Bollywood. Kajol is my favorite SRK was to until recently I find myself really enjoying Amir Khan. Nevertheless SRK will always have my heart and he did a fantastic job as usual in this movie. There is a saying about if you don't play a person with a disability right it could tarnish your acting credentials, but SRK surpassed doing it right. He was extremely believable and very realistic. And Kajol...ahhhh she gets more beautiful with age and her acting is always top notch in my opinion. She embodies her character in this one and I can feel it coming off the screen. This movie was perfect. They handled the 9/11 storyline wonderfully. After watching it It actually made me sit and think about how drastically the world did change after that event not just for Americans but for Arabians, Pakistanis, Indians..pretty much everyone whose origin is in the Middle East. This movie made me step outside of being a Black person being born and raised in America but I got to see what its like for people with Middle Eastern ancestry who live right here in America what they go through on a day to day basis.

Dieser Film hat mir sehr gefallen, was fürs Herz und die Seele. Aber auch der politische Wahn wird gut in Szene gesetzt.
