I’ve seen that others decided to use foam ear plugs (cheaper), but I tried them and don’t like them.** A: No they are not the same as earplugs. Pinmoor are silicone. They will not come off the pin till you remove them. I worked very hard to get the material just right. They last forever. I have tried spray on adhesive and safety pins to keep quilt layers together, and have not liked them. I also, after seeing the Pinmoors online, bought some foam earplugs, thinking they would be cheaper and work just as well, and they were a disaster. I had more than enough Pinmoors (pack of 100) for the pictured 4’x 6’ (approximately) throw placing these about every 5-6 inches (which seems enough for this throw). I read reviews saying they made the quilt heavy, but I did not find that to be the case at all.When I tried earplugs, it was hard to get the pin to press into them. Then, most of them fell off before I got around to sewing. The Pinmoors are easy to pierce with the pin but very secure and stay put until you are ready to remove them. They are much smaller than typical foam earplugs (which I like) but do weigh a bit more (but, again, did not add unwanted weight to the quilt). I thought they seemed a little expensive before I bought them, but now that I have them and see the excellent quality, I think they are well worth the money and will last for a long time.
