## Overview

The SEI Inspector EXP is a cutting-edge microprocessor-based ionizing radiation detector designed for professionals. It features a four-digit LCD display for precise readings, an external probe for versatile detection of various radiation types, and instant alerts for any radiation changes. The user-friendly carrying case ensures easy operation, making it an essential tool for safety and monitoring in any environment.

## Description

The Radiation Alert SEI Inspector EXP is a handheld radiation detector that detects potentially harmful ionizing alpha and beta particles, and gamma and x-ray radiation, with an external probe, and has a four-digit, LCD digital display of either millirem (mR) per hour and counts per minute (CPM); or microSieverts (μSv ) per hour and counts per second (CPS), and function indicators, and comes with a carrying case with probe cover. This radiation detector can detect low levels of the four main types of ionizing alpha and beta particles, and gamma rays and x-rays over automatic operational ranges. It is optimized to detect small changes (low levels) in radiation levels and to have high sensitivity to noble gases, and many common low energy radionuclides. The microprocessor-based SEI Inspector EXP has automatic operational ranges for a variety of radiation detection applications. A red, flashing counter, and a beeping noise indicate each ionizing radiation change event. The display updates every three seconds. At low background levels, which are typical in a geographic area, the update is the moving average for the most recent 30-second time period. The time period for the moving average decreases, as radiation levels increase. It counts ionizing radiation changes, with the user-configured unit of measurement. The display shows various indicators, based on the mode setting, the function performed, and remaining battery power. Depending on user settings, display includes low battery, alert, timer, total mode (to see the number of times a reading should be multiplied by to obtain the correct radiation count), calibration mode, utility menu (timer, calibration, alarm set mode), and units of measurement settings. The SEI Inspector EXP radiation detector comes with a RAP-RS1 external probe with a halogen-quenched, uncompensated Geiger Mueller (GM) tube with a 2” (thin) window for sensing ionizing radiation, and can be used in a variety of applications. The radiation detector is used for surveying naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) contamination, gross wipe counting, contamination inspection of packages, equipment, and people, regulatory inspections, and for low energy radionuclide detection. This detector has a utility menu on the back of the unit. The menu has a three-second response, and switches the detector from mR/hr and counts per minute (CPM) to μSv/hr and counts per second (CPS). It also can reset the calibration factor to 100, adjust calibration, and reset all settings to the default factory setting. The SEI Inspector EXP radiation detector has an audio indicator with an internally mounted beeper that can be turned off for silent applications. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the unit come ready to use or will it require calibration prior to use? How often will the unit need to be calibrated?**
A: good to go operating instructions.. I use 20 minute test separate by given time period.say 3 hour spacing. divide rad count by 20 minutes give you rad per hour rate.. 45 and below be considered save. went to ocean shores wash st. had count of 570 and 580..divided by 20..you have a very modest and safe rate of under 20. you can buy test coins to test your inspector.. I love my inspector no problems to date..coins are cool..but feel not needed ..get a couple tester if leery.. you can test everything.. rule of thumb ..if you turn on your inspector and it hits 500 and continues to excel.. run.. close windows take your pills..you can get a new inspector if you watch sites..for around 800..coins from 25 dols and up..g-d bless.take of your selve and family. john

**Q: Are replacement sensors available and at what price level?**
A: The replacement probe is about $400

**Q: Can this be used without the externl probe? Is a sensor built into the unit itself?**
A: I use a similar probe in my work at nuclear plants. The detector is in the round part of the handle. This type of instrument is best used for detecting contamination which is what we use this set up for. The detector is probably made of Mylar and is very thin which would detect beta radiation, but alpha I doubt, at least not efficiently. To answer your question, just looking at the picture and the instrument description, the sensor(probe) is in the hand held portion. If you do purchase this instrument, hold the probe at .5 to 1 inch and move the probe at two inches per second. This is a Geiger counter. A Geiger counter can detect radiation, it just can't tell you what type of radiation as an ion chamber can. A little help here. See what your background level is with the instrument on (mr/hr) in a known low background level. As you go to the area in question, and the level rises, that would be gamma radiation. If you put the probe on something in question, .5-1 inches above, that would be beta radiation. Gamma is similar to X-rays, only stronger. Beta can be stopped with a thick piece of cardboard or aluminium foil. If you are checking to see if something has contamination on it, use the CPM mode. Feel free to contact me again.

**Q: Does this also detect and measure Radon gas?**
A: No. It is a radiation detector for alpha, beta and gamma radiation. Most hardware stores carry kits you can use to sample the air and send it into a state lab for radon gas presence. In Wisconsin some utility companies will also provide this kit and service to help costumers. Also "google" radon gas kit detectors. Radon gas in homes can cause lung cancer too. Some cements in basements leak radon gas and there are paints to seal it off. Good luck and stay safe. Ruben.

Outstanding quality and sensitivity. -- Worth the cost

*by D***Y on Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2014*

I got it in today, and the unit worked flawlessly. The probe is very sensitive to alpha, beta, gamma radiation, and the probe is outstanding. I was able to easily identify slightly radioactive rocks in my back yard, and also radioactive sources such as Americium-241. Although it is a bit pricey, I think the extra cost is worth it. The product also comes with a nice protective case and a small-size CD containing instructions and a catalog. Originally I was wavering as to whether or not to buy this, but I'm glad I did.My Americium 241 test: 280 Gamma ray counts / minute @ 1 cm probe-to-source distance 3800 Alpha particle emissions detected / minute @ 1 cm probe-to-source distance 20,000+ Alpha particle emissions detected / minute @ 0.5 cm probe-to-source distance

    Absolutely loved the detector

Absolutely loved the detector. Just as advertised. Works great and seems vary accurate, make sure to only use with pancake sensor, it is only calibrated for the attached sensor.

    Best Radiation Detector Out there!

*by И***Р on Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2014*

wow! what can i say, I'm a huge collector of uranium rocks and different samples and this is very prices and accurate! battery lasts a long time, and having the sensor detached from the unit, you can be farther away from what your reading (SAFTY wise).I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS!i will buy another soonalso, this may be a bit pricey but its solo worth it in the long run!
