SEAFLO Electric Field Bilge Switch - For 12V/24V, Solid State, Up to 20A

Second Update….after carefully wiping the contacts the unit now works flawlessly.It could be that there was some oil, grease, or silicone on the two sensor pads. Update after using for a month…the unit comes on just fine but won’t turn off unless I wipe the contacts with a tissue. I’m on a cruise so won’t be able to return this for several months. The failure to turn off seems to be a common issue, even if relatively rare. This replaced a 12 year old unit which has just failed. Easy to install and test. Works flawlessly

installed in a boat for the backup or secondary bilge pump, when we tested with quick flooding, it worked great, turn on and off with no problem. When in everyday use, the sensor get a few drops of water on it, it turns on but won't turn off, once you have splashed a lot of water on it then it will shut down as the water falls off of it. This product is a waste of time and money! Can return because as been open and used. I bought a float switch and now it works as designed. I like Seaflo products in most cases, but this one need to be redesigned. JM

CRAP! READ ON. 6 weeks old. On 2 occasions it did not turn off even thought boat was out of the water. The first time it happened I was not sure if something was on the sensors. The second time I was sure they were clean and not touching water. Both times this was discovered days after boating use. In addition to the expense of this unreturnable item, I burned up a brand new Rule 1500 and killed a group 31 deep cycle battery. This was slightly more than a $300.00 bad choice. DO NOT BUY

My old one would come on when bildge water was up, but then would not turn off any more once it finished. I replaced it with this one. Works like a charm !

The reason these switches never really caught on is because what they will leave you with is a burnt out pump, dead battery, sunk boat, or all of the above. The concept is great, but truth is that anything that films on the surface of the switch can keep it in the on position. Even the slightest bit of soap film or bilge scum. Not worth the burnt pump or the dead battery or the sunken boat. Go with the tried and true float switch and save yourself the aggravation.

Works great so far

This bilge switch is great. The best thing about this bilge switch is that it has zero moving parts. That means no break downs! Once the water reaches the top hole, it activates the pump. It couldn't be any easier.

I've had these since the first came out!!!

I replaced another solid state switch that had three wires (this one has two) but it wasn't a problem. At first, the switch activated the bilge pump properly but it wouldn't turn off. This was fixed by raising the switch so the low water mark was above the lowest level the pump would remove.
