Perfect fit but required modification
It fit my 5/16" lap siding perfectly. At most, I had a 1/32" gap. It's a great solution. I used it to install my Ring Cam Plus which had to be installed with straight across fixture screws when using the hardwire kit. So I had to drill a couple of holes in it to make it work. No big deal but it would be nice if this had screw holes for both offset and straight across mounting. It's also a little pricey for a piece of moulded plastic, but it was the best solution.

Makes for easy installation!
Worked great! I didn't use the little black plastic wire holder.

Does not work with all outdoor light fixtures.
The design of plate has one big flaw in it. There are only 2 mounting holes for your light fixture base to screw into. The particular barn light that I bought from Amazon (Steel Lighting Co. Barn light) comes with a round mounting plate with 4 holes. Only two holes could be used that came with the mounting plate. The other 2 holes in the mounting plate I lined up on the wall plate and then drilled down and straight through so I could have 4 screws total holding the barn light to the wall plate. The wall plate would get 5 star if it had 4 mounting holes (like a round metal surface mount box). I would venture a guess that other outdoor light fixtures would not work either unless you drill your own holes. It did fit very well against my Cedar Shakes.

Fits well over siding and provides a stable platform for larger lights
My house is close to 25 yrs old and the builder used these tiny light mount rings on top of the siding that could barely hold the most basic one bulb porch light. Anything fixture with a base diameter larger than the size of a siding panel was a no go.I stumbled across these doing a search and they seemed like the perfection solution to providing a sturdy vertical base for more modern, heavier like like the Ring cam.Installation was very straightforward. I had no junction box behind the siding and I used the supplied screws to zip it right into the wood behind the siding. Have a tube of silicone caulk handy to seal around the base BEFORE you mount your light. Don't seal the bottom however as there is a weep hole there. And that's it. Now I can mount larger base light without worry and I have some room to stuff the excess wires as well compared to that tiny cap the builder had on there before (see photo).

Makes me look like a pro
I am just a DIY guy that somehow found himself flipping houses. I could not find any boxes for outdoor lights that didn't look ghetto until I came across these. I've now installed atleast a dozen. Love them!

Worked great on Hardie siding
Lined up fine on my Hardie siding. I had the drywall off on the inside of the wall anyway, so I added a block of wood between studs to screw the mounting block to for support. Plenty of space to run wires into & use wire nuts for connections.Painted the mounting block with paint that’s the same color as the siding & caulked the top & sides. Looks great.I needed to buy a fixture mounting bracket (like a cross bar) for about $5 since my light didn’t come with one & the mounting block didn’t come with one. The bracket screws to the mounting block, then the light screws to the bracket.
