I have a metal door frame. Can i install this device on a metal door?

The screws included with the bar are wooden door frames. You can install the bar in a metal frame, but you would need to use a different type of screws specifically designed for metal.

Does the bar just lift out of the brackets?

Yes the bar slides in and out of the brackets. Each bracket has two metal locks. You would need to rotate them outward to get the bar out and inward to keep the bar in place. I hope it helps.
