Ant Farm Starter Kit for Kids and Adults, Ant Nest Formicarium, Ant Terrarium for Small Colony (Red)

This is a very good formicarium and everything that is advertised is true. I waited until my ants were using this for at least a month before reviewing to ensure that it actually is a good product. The pictures show my colony of Camponotus Pennsylvanicus, and they are thriving in this nest for the past month. They were originally in a “tub and tubes” setup but I wanted something that looked more aesthetically pleasing and could be displayed in the living room. This formicarium totally works for everything I needed. As you can see from the brood pile and the clutch of newly laid eggs, everything is going well and the colony is happy.The 4 different quadrant “rooms” in the nest are cool because it allows your ants to organize their brood as they see fit. My ants have 1 room for pupae, 1 room for larvae, 1 room for eggs and tiny larvae, and unfortunately my ants are not the brightest so they used the 4th room as their trash can lol. But as the colony size grows, they will instinctively know to move the garbage out to the outworld and utilize the inside nest space properly instead of as a trash can.Just a note about the outworld- the outworld floor is a nice natural looking gypsum material, but mine has a layer of clear plastic because I didn’t trust my ants to not stain/discolor the outworld floor, so I personally cut a piece of clear plastic to go over the gypsum. The plastic floor covering doesn’t look as nice as the natural gypsum, but I will take the tradeoff to avoid my ants creating permanent stains with food and such. Also, the water feeder is not included, that’s something I bought separately from EstheticAnts.I didn’t know what to expect when I ordered it because the reviews have been relatively subpar, but was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. A certain well known formicarium maker offers a very similar one like this, but the difference is theirs costs about 5x more than this one. Something that would make this a perfect nest would be some sort of interior nest hydration. Luckily my ants are Camponotus so they don’t like humidity and this nest works for them very well.

The lid for the nest for bent mold grew fast and overall small.

Shopping Online for pre-made Formicariums is crazy, people must think we are dumb. We would have to be to pay the ridiculous prices they want. This formicarium is very well made. It is the perfect size for a queen and her small colony for their first move out of the test tube. I used a nail file and sanded down one corner of the lid and using a syringe I squirt water under the cement without lifting the lid. it provides plenty enough humidity without causing mold. I couldn't be happier with it!! AND it is what a nest of it's size should cost!!
