This book a must read. Especially if two are trying to make it work.I've learnt to appreciate and except others because of the advice.

Profound.I wish I had this 20+ years ago - has helped me make look at life with optimism and purpose, instead of angst and dread
For me, this book has been profound. I wish I had this 20+ years ago - when I got married, actually 30 years ago (to save much teenage angst). When life just gets knocked off kilter, and now everything's a struggle and you can't figure out why... it tells you why, and unlike most books, how to actually work on fixing it. It's for any relationship, not just romantic, including the relationship for yourself.Dr. Russ puts this in really down to earth language with the utmost respect for the reader, in a super gentle yet straightforward manner. The editor does not bog you down in pages of stories, they offer a paragraph of someone else's situation such that you get the analogy. For me personally it was worth 10 stars and was amazingly easy to read.Much unlike the ACT creator's Stephen Hayes audio - which I had purchased and got bogged down in - and I'm in the tech industry and can handle a lot of data! Plus the audio version is a human narrator but his cadence and tone is like old Microsoft Bird! ugh. Sorry Dr. Hayes, truly. So far it has helped me make look at life with optimism and purpose, instead of angst and dread, and I am forgoing my life of hermitude and actually look forward to relationships and inter-connectivity with others. Unexpectedly, it has helped immensely with caregiving for my elder dad of 86 - helping our interactions be calm instead of oppositional, as well as my siblings and spouse, and generally any interaction. It is a journey, though, and I have begun and hope to get better at it as time goes on.

Another excellent book by Russ Harris!
Russ Harris, author of "The Happiness Trap", has written yet another engaging and easy-to-read book. As a clinical psychologist who uses ACT quite frequently with my clients, I have found this book to be an invaluable resource, both at a professional and personal level. This book will help you undertand the problems in your relationship, teach you strategies to stop struggling with painful thoughts and feelings, learn to accept and re-connect with your partner, identify your values, and enhance your relationship by helping you be the partner that YOU ultimately want to be. I highly recommend this book to anyone in a relationship. Whether you are wanting to enhance an already healthy relaionship, or whether you are wanting to repair a relationship that has become strained and disconnected, this book will give you the strategies to do so.
