This barcode reader usually scans the barcodes really quickly. The only issue it has had was with a barcode covered in a really shiny plastic. It did have a little trouble with that but did eventually read the code. It is quite easy to setup and get using with a computer. You can either use the dongle provided for wireless connection to a computer or you can use the cable (also provided) if you are working close to a computer. You really do need to keep the manual stored somewhere close by. All the functionality for configuring the device, like turning beeps on or off, is done by QR codes stored in the manual. I suppose once you are happy with how you have it configured you may not need the manual on hand but definitely not something you would want to throw away. I haven't had any problems with the battery life. It works easily for the couple of hours between been connected directly to the computer. Overall I think that his is good value for money as I haven't had any problems and has done exactly as I needed without spending a huge amount of money.
