Not the experience I was hoping for.
I don’t eat much candy. But, I got a craving for saltwater taffy and wanted some like I used to get when I was a kid. The kind where each flavor is just bursting with flavor and you knew exactly what the flavor was. Nobody needed to tell you. You knew if it was peppermint, black licorice, blueberry, strawberry, orange, chocolate, caramel, coconut, banana, lemon, mango, etc. That’s such a fun experience as a kid to bite into the flavors and there’s no question that you know from first bite exactly what the flavor is. The differences between them are so distinct and a great taste bud experience. This taffy was nothing like that. A lot of it was rather soft instead of chewy like salt water taffy should be. And practically every color tasted almost exactly the same. The only one that had a definite different taste was the green sour… I guess green apple? It was gross. Too sour. But mostly, way too runny and melted. Didn’t even have a taffy texture at all. Anyway, I was shooting for the experience that I had when I was a kid and this was nothing like that. No matter what the color of the candy was, it all tasted the same, like I said, other than the green sour one. Very very disappointing. I’m not much on doing reviews, and especially not negative reviews. But. of feel like people should be warned on this one. If you want a whole bag of differently colored toffee that you’re expecting to taste all the same, then I guess it would be for you. But, if you’re wanting the excitement and surprise of different familiar flavors that you can readily guess and appreciate, then you’re not going to be happy with this one.

Great Product!
Before I even tell you about the flavor and freshness, let me tell you about the packaging. The zippered bag of taffy was secured in a mylar bubble wrap bag with an ice pack, and then packaged inside a box. The most well-packaged item I have received this year! AND, bonus, it arrived two days early. Now, the taffy itself... it is soft, fresh, and sooooooo yummy. I love the flavors! I ordered this as a sugar-free sweet treat for myself. If I didn't know it was sugar-free I wouldn't guess it was - no overwhelming artificial sweetener taste or aftertaste. So, well done FirstChoiceCandy for getting the recipe right. I've heard this brand does well in the freeze dryer so I'm going to try that and see how it puffs. I will have to pace myself eating this because of the laxative effect of Maltitol, (anyone who regularly eats sugar-free is used to that) but I will definitely be ordering more of this so I don't run out. Update: As you can see from the picture, these worked very well in the freeze dryer! I cut the pieces in half before freeze drying and they puffed up to the size of ping pong balls! The flavors intensified in the freeze drying process, but still not overwhelming or "off" from the sweetener. The flavors are chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla, strawberry, and the green, surprisingly, is wintergreen. Love them all!

Okay product, wish pieces were labeled with flavors.
This item is quite tasty. One thing I wish that I could change would be to label each candy piece their flavors. There are several Browns and I assumed they were chocolate flavored. I ate one and it was chocolate. So I gave one to my daughter thinking that she would like the chocolate flavor. She spit it out immediately saying that it was disgusting. I said more for me I guess. And then the next couple of days I picked up another Brown and understood immediately what she was talking about. It was licorice. Same situation happened, I ate a pink one and it was cherry. Very delightful really enjoyed it. Couple of days later I picked up another pink one assuming that it would also be cherry. It was cinnamon. And if you try to smell them there's not much of an odor to determine the flavor. So it's really just hit or miss with the flavors. I'm not sure what flavor the white is. It's really hard to determine. At first I thought it was going to be coconut. But it wasn't. I want to say that it was Vanilla. But there really wasn't a vanilla flavor to it. Possibly it's just unflavored sweet Taffy. But overall this is a good product it would be nice if you knew what flavors you were eating before you ate them. They may be sugar-free but they are certainly not calorie-free. And I hate to waste expensive candy. Because if you were to order a bag of salt water taffy that was not a sugar-free it would cost likely less than half of what this bag cost. So some of the flavors are absolutely delightful! The sum of the flavors are not very good to me. But flavor is a Fickle subject. Lots of people enjoy licorice. However I do not like it. Some people love hot cinnamon. It's not one of my favorites. I don't get very sick at my stomach when eating these items. Of course I don't consume mass amounts at a time. I try to keep myself back to around 4 to 5 pieces a day. I also really love candy. But being a diabetic I tried to keep myself in check. But that doesn't mean that I haven't had more than I should before. I have had an upset stomach when I once consumed too much sugar free candy. But it wasn't extreme. Many people are different and are more sensitive to sugar substitutes than others. Be careful when consuming too much of this candy. It may be sugar-free but it still has calories and fat. And some people still get glucose spikes from sugar alcohol. So that's definitely something that you will have to monitor on your own.
