Like a lot of other KA stand mixer users, I found the dough hook that came with the machine to be sub-standard. The white enamel started flaking off within a couple of years of use. I also noted reviews that showed some replacement hooks had the same flaking problem, or the stainless steel versions weren’t really stainless. I’m happy to report that this one is of very high quality stainless. It’s not inexpensive, but should last a lifetime.

New one. Got it for $49.99. Should be not more than $30. Today it is already out of stock. Stainless steel. Dishwasher safe. Looks very nice. Expected delivery was 19 days. Got it today after 4 days. Very nice original packaging from KitchenAid. Already tested it 3 times today for my own bread, no issues. Old, original one. Aluminum coated with plastic. Not dishwasher safe. After using it for a few years, pieces of plastic started separating from the aluminum core. Might cause a big health issue. Conclusion. The manufacture should switch to stainless steel only for all the attachments. Small pieces of plastic (coated aluminum) might cause extremely bad health issues. I definitely recommend buying it as soon as possible. Just make sure it fits your model.

I purchased this to replace the original dough hook that came with my KitchenAid Artisan (tilt head, made around 2008, I believe). The enamel on the original is finally chipping. This hook works great, and goes in the dishwasher without any discoloration. These new stainless paddles are weighted to make them feel heavier, but it has the desired effect: they have a satisfying heft and feel very solid.
