Q: When disasembling, do the clamps detach from the board?

Yes, the clamps are attached to the board using some bolts that need to be tightened using an Allen key.

Q: Why can't this be used with glass if you put some padding between the glass and clamps?

Although not advisable for obvious reasons, I have improvised by using a reasonably padded tape on the clamp (side touching the glass) and then used a flat cork on the table where the clamp was applied. Use the product for intended use only.

Q: Is it height adjustable?

This is not height adjustable. However, it is ergonomically useful as there's less strain on your elbow and wrist. Works well for me!
