Fox Run 3808 Slate Cheese Board, Round Gray, 12 x 12 x 0.25 inches

I'm really happy with my purchase! I was a little weary at first because, like some of the reviews had said, it came with an imprint of the twin on both sides, however, it was really easy to get off. I scrubbed the surface with a dry paper towel and the imprint disappeared, there was some greyish residue on the paper towel afterwards but the board looked great. I also added an extra felt circle (white) on the bottom, on top of the three (black) that it came with for some extra protection. It came with two chalk sticks that are a nice touch if I ever want to use it as a cheese board. Highly recommend!

I lightly wet a paper towel with food grade mineral oil and wiped the entire slate surface with it. The stain disappered and the slate was darker and more pristine looking. the same mineral oil I use on my wooden chef knife handles, wooden cutting board, and chopping block. I'm a chef, so my stuff gets used pretty heavily. Mineral oil does the trick and made my warehouse purchased charcuterie/cheese board look more elegant and worthy of the French cheeses and cold lamb and duck sausages i set out on it. Beautiful slate!

I actually bought these to go under wrought iron lanterns to catch candle wax, did it ever turn out elegant! We are leaving one in the center of our patio table for salt/pepper/condiments. The third, we are keeping as an actual cheese plate. Well packaged, arrived quickly.

I REALLY LIKE THIS SLATE! Ok so when u first receive it, it’s tied up by some strings and it leaves a mark. I HAVE A SOLUTION! Use a bit of olive oil and brush all over the top. Leave it over night and then wash it lightly with water and a bit of soap. THE LINES WILL BE GONE! I was doing a bit if food photography and I noticed the parts where the grease was on made the lines from the string go away! After drying it, it came out beautifully perfect for my next photoshoot. 10-1 would recommend!

This board looked fine, but was obviously natural slate... there was a vein running through it and it has two different textures. If I wasn't decorating it I probably wouldn't have noticed. If I had been in a hands-on store, I probably could have just chosen the next one in the stack. I laser engraved the board and still looked good, but it made the material difference more obvious. Without a small dab of mineral oil it also was a little blotchy - the oil fixed this right up. It will make your cheese look more fantastic, it is a good serving piece.

I did not use this as a cheese board. I bought it to fit on top of a round side table. The table is really a metal plant stand without a solid top. But the slate is the perfect size and I am able to use the stand as a side table next to a chair.

After this cheese board arrived, I opened it up and noticed that there was an imprint on the front and back side from the twine string that had been tied around it. I waited about a day to see if it would go away, I washed it with a bit of dish soap and warm water, waited another day or two... the (grease? oil?) imprint is still on the front and back of the board. The twine has also some of the black from the board imprinted on it. Additionally, there are no care instructions, and I've never owned a cheese board before, so I had to look up online how to wash it. I would be happy to receive a response from the company about suggestions on how to make these marks go away, or to get a replacement.

This came fully intact and exactly what I wanted. I took the suggestion from another poster and used coconut oil to remove the lines from the twine and it worked perfectly.
