27 Adorable designs of tiny animal homes – printed one side of the page
The media could not be loaded. In the last edition in the Nice Little Town series, the artist (Tanya Bogema (Stolova), included a few samples of adorable mouse abodes. I, for one, wanted to get a full book of these designs. The artist really listened to the feedback and has provided this latest release in the series with a cute little town made up of 27 designs of different tiny homes suitable for mice. If you can imagine a little town, perhaps in a forest, where mice could live in peace in tranquility, this would be it.I am a big fan of this series and have purchased every one so far. I believe that this book is my favorite of all. Funny, though, I saw that after each book is released. Perhaps I just really like the whole series! While some of her coloring books have been released in smaller format, this one is the size of a standard coloring book at 8.5 x 11 inches. I like the bigger book so I can play with shading, blending and such. This is what I found in this coloring book:27 Incredibly cute mouse abodes designs with additional multiple pages of samples from other coloring books.Printed one side of the pagePaper is typical of CreateSpace: white, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not merge into the binding area.Glue BindingCreate Space Paper/Media QualityAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work fairly well with this publisher’s paper provided you don’t press extremely hard while coloring. I find that I can layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and I could blend easily using a blending stick. This is true of both oil and wax based pencils. I have also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.I like to use a blotter when working in this type of book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.

Whimsical w/o being too cute. Paper isn’t great.
Such a fun coloring book. Cute; but, not too cute. I own about 30 coloring books. My favorites are by Johanna Basford & Hanna Karlzon. This caught my eye because it leans toward nature w/ a touch of whimsy. I colored one page w/ Prismacolor Premier, Farber Castell Polychromos, & Black Widow pencils. I loved how it came out. I mixed colors I normally wouldn’t & got vibrant results. If you don’t own a blender pencil, you really should get one. It makes a huge difference. I colored one using several kinds of markers. I didn’t love the final look. While the pictures are 1 sided, the back is black & it affects the color of the markers a bit. Blending w/ markers didn’t work well. The paper isn’t very thick & I found blending markers made it too wet. I’m currently coloring a page w/ gel pens & the paper is rippling a bit where I’m coloring a larger area w/ the ink. The paper just gets too wet. I will probably use colored pencils for this book & add highlights w/ my glitter gel pens. I did use a manilla folder behind the pages to protect the next picture. I find markers always bleed through. Also, I used a light touch when blending w/ pencils as I felt the black on the backside changed the look of light colors. But, by blending gently, I found I didn’t have that problem again. I know it sounds like a lot of issues. But, this book is really worth more than it costs. You can really have fun w/ colors. I just wanted to help others avoid the issues I had which is why it may sound like I don’t like the book. The paper quality could be better; but, the cost would go up. Personally, I’d rather have better paper, no black backside to the pictures, & pay more. I’m only posting the pics I’ve done as other reviewers have posted samples of what you’ll find in this book. Even w/ the issues w/ the paper, I give this book 5 stars based on the images. I will purchase more books by this artist. Also, there are 18 illustrations at the end of the book that are from the artist’s other books. I appreciate this as I can see what I might want to check out & what probably won’t interest me.
