EarthworksSR5117 Supercardioid Condenser Vocal Wireless Capsule

I had high hopes for this cartridge. Unfortunately, it did not deliver the goods for my vocalist.I own a bunch of different microphones from the pedestrian to the mid-high end. SM58s, e935/945, OM7, sE V7, SR314, various DPAs, AKGs, etc. I thought this mic might, for a modest price, be able to deliver more clarity on the end of a Sennheiser wireless handheld than an e935 cartridge. I was wrong. It's more like a hybrid of an SM58 with the pickup pattern of a Beta 58, but without the really awful 2-3k bump, and honky midrange. It sounded kinda muddy and indistinct, despite EQ tweaks attempting to compensate. It probably will work better with a male vocalist than this particular female. Put the SR5314 on the handheld, adjusted gain structure and WHOA...There's a reason Dolly Parton uses a wireless SR314.
