Will a 500ml water bottle fit inside the main compartment? I don't like to carry in the side pockets.

A 500ml does fit in the main compartment comfortably. Pockets on the side are not suitable for bottles not large enough but good for hand sanitizers

The micro sizing doesn't match the photo of the product. Could it be that the dimensions should have been mentioned as inches instead of cm's ?

Measurements are in inches. But make it sound small just measured my full bag width is 7.5 inches including outside pockets. It is a good sized bag. Hope this helps
