5 STARS! A heartfelt, hilarious & hot roommates-to-lovers hockey romcom!
For me, Meghan Quinn’s writing is comfort reading. The way she blends her hilariously quirky sense of humor with deep—and often profound—emotion is a guaranteed attention grabber for me. Wrap all of that awesomeness up in a sweet and steamy romance, and I am a goner. I have loved all of her books, all of her series, from the swimmers who first captured my heart and brought Meghan Quinn onto my radar to her baseball players, blue collar guys, teachers and billionaires—all of them have brought me immense joy and pleasure and loads of laughter and love. But I’m a huge hockey fan. As a lifelong NY Rangers fan, a 26 year season ticket holder and a hockey goalie mom of 15 years, I say without hesitation that Meghan Quinn’s done my favorite sport justice with her Agitators series. She’s created an absolutely captivating world around these five endearing and charismatic professional hockey players. But it’s been the moody, broody Halsey Holmes’ story that I’ve been most looking forward to since he was introduced as a supporting character in the first book of the series, Kiss and Don’t Tell. He's Not My Type was a total win for me. A hockey-themed romcom with a roommates-to-lovers, shared-bed vibe, Quinn pulled off the unthinkable by perfectly merging an unrequited crush with an unexpected romance. Through her witty, engaging prose, Meghan took me on this rollercoaster romance filled with hilarious banter and some scorching hot moments that left me fanning myself. The undeniable chemistry between Halsey and Blakely could have melted the ice in any arena, and the genuine, gut-wrenching emotion of Halsey’s history made my heart ache for him. I was as invested in this couple as Halsey’s teammates were.Quinn’s ability to infuse humor into the story while building an authentic connection and genuine emotion was present on every page. Mismatched roommates and meddling teammates made for a really fun dynamic. I listened to the audiobook, narrated in duet by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais, with a full cast including Teddy Hamilton, Jason Clarke, J.F. Harding and Kelsey Navarro-Foster, and it was incredible. Their performances, delivery and chemistry perfectly came together into this wonderfully engaging and entertaining listening experience. I laughed and swooned my way through this addictively charming story, falling in love right along with Halsey and Blakely. Five smooches from me for He’s Not My Type by Meghan Quinn!

A Fantastic Full Cast Audio!
Story: 4.5 ⭐️sNarration: 5 ⭐️sWhat a wonderful book! Part raucous romantic hockey comedy, part exploration of loss (family and long-term relationship), part found family tour-de-force. Meghan Quinn, threads that needle of hilarity and humanity so deftly, it’s what makes her brand of rom-coms so unique. One minute I would be laughing from Frozen Fella group text shenanigans, and the next tearing up as Halsey struggled with his grief. This book has one of my absolute favorite tropes - found family and Quinn handles it superbly. I was wholly invested in the love story of our two MCs, but the friendship moments in this book were just so beautiful and joyfully that they amplified everything. It was a Spinal Tap this goes to 11 situation in the best way. The interactions made me like the MCs even more, contributing a roundness to their characters that can sometimes get lost in a love at first sight story (which it very much what it was for Halsey). The fact that his and Blakely’s growth as individuals came as much from their friendships as from their love match was awesome. My one complaint is that the ending felt a bit rushed given the depth of Halsey’s traumas (and the piling on of a couple more so close to the close!). Still, the show of love and support from his guys and Blakely mitigated that rushed feeling for me somewhat. Now for the audiobook. It was, in a word, fantastic! This was a full cast audio production and all the performances were top-notch with all narrators perfectly cast. Erin Mallon and Connor Crais were outstanding as the MCs. Both brought a great blend of humor and gravitas to the story and played off each other so well; the chemistry was believable. And the love scenes - holy hotness, Batman! Halsey has so many layers, but Crais’s growly, bossy Halsey was amazing. Honestly, every performer managed to steal a scene at some point. However, Teddy Hamilton’s Posey performance was a particular joy - just so funny and lovably goofy that it made me want his story yesterday! As a whole, this audio just made me wish every found-family troupe story would get a full cast audiobook recording.Overall, the story, setting, and characters Quinn created just make me was to keep coming back and if you love found family and a unique romcom approach, this one is more than worth a listen.I received an ALC copy of the audiobook via the author’s team. All opinions are my own.
