ClueFinders Math Adventures - Mystery of the Himalayas is educational software designed to help improve your student's math skills while thy are having fun. The software has recently been remade by Software MacKiev to run on Mac OS X.The ClueFinders series is presented in the format of a Saturday morning cartoon adventure and written for ages 9-12+.ClueFinders Math Adventure is an adventure game that takes place high in the Himalayas. The players must solve the mystery of who has stolen the valuable treasures from an ancient village. There are eight activity locations that offer puzzles to be completed. After finishing an activity the player receives a clue to help determine the identity of the thief, the stolen object or the place where the stolen object has been hidden. Once he has gathered all the clues the player has the opportunity to solve the mystery. There are sixteen stolen treasures to be recovered one by one.Navigating through the activities the kids must solve various problems that help build a variety of math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, geometry, charts, graphs, and tables. Players also must use logic and deductive reasoning to solve the mystery.ClueFinders Math Adventures uses the A.D.A.P.T. Learning Technology that continually adjusts the program to match each player's growing abilities. A player may take the preassessment test which customizes the program's difficulty level for each player before they begin. The skill level may also be set or changed manually at any time.A Practice Mode is available to allow players to work on problems without solving the mystery.The included full color User's Guide is well written and illustrated. It gives in detail goals, tips, and how to play instructions for each activity and can be understood by both adult and child. An electronic version of the User's Guide is placed on your computer as the software is installed. Help is also available by clicking on the on screen characters while at each activity location.ClueFinders Math Adventures is well thought out, the animation and sound are good, and the activities are fun. The math problems can be challenging and so can some of the arcade style games, requiring the player to watch closely and think fast.
