In free play the children experiment with the fishing rod, the sea, as well as all the funny sea inhabitants. They swim happily in all directions and discover many exciting things to play with. In the game with rules the children have to catch a fish of the color appearing on the die. Whoever manages is rewarded by the fish and gets a toy that he can then puzzle into his template. Who is the best angler and collects all his toys first? winning is fun, losing not so much. But both belong together - in life and in play. Playing is fun and offers variety. Playing teaches patience. Playing lets us be Happy for other players and learn to get over our own defeats. Playing also incidentally and unconsciously trains concentration, memory, reaction skills and lots more. I play board games, and was really hoping for something that would be both simple and intuitive for a 3 year old, and also at least somewhat interesting for an adult, and this is...not that. Mechanically, it's barely a game. So much so that when you read the directions you may find yourself asking what the point is, or even why there are directions (indeed, the directions imply that the game is as much a canvas that you can apply your own rules to, as much as follow their recommendations). I balked, I admit. BUT! If you sit down and play this once with your child, you will see how carefully and deliberately it was designed to trick your toddler into learning something. Colors, Shapes, Matching, Fine Motor Control, Taking Turns, Making Connections Between Separate But Related Objects. It's incredibly broad in what it's trying to teach children, and it does it without making it obvious to the kid. But it will be obvious to you. The highest praise I can give it is that my 3 three old frequently runs up to the shelf and pulls it off asking to play it - and personally I'm thrilled that she just getting practice in the art of taking turns. It beautiful, kinesthetic, with nice chunky parts that will survive much mistreatment.

**Q: How do you catch the fish?? How to the catch on the pole**
A: The pole and fish connect by magnet.  This is a great game, probably the first that my kids could actually play.  I think it helped them learn to focus, take turns, follow a protocol, etc.

**Q: Can a one year old still have fun with the game?**
A: A one year old won't be able to follow the rules, but will enjoy "free play" with the sturdy wooden pieces. So yes, a one year old will have fun with it, just like he/she would with any wooden sea animal toys, but not in the sense of proper gameplay with rules. I would recommend hiding the games for a few months just about the child's second birthday and then take it out again when the child is old enough to understand the rules - this way the game will be fresh and interesting again when the child is ready to learn the "proper" game rules.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great family fun. Suits 2-5 year olds

Still a favourite for our kids almost a year on. Age range at this point two through four loved playing together. Actually a help with our daughter with DS' work on hand eye coordination. Each player takes turns rolling dice (coloured sides), you then have to catch that colour fish. You work on completing like a puzzle board with each fish you've caught, first to complete wins. Best of all is the RAINBOW FISH!
